Just out of curiosity, what's the armor thickness on this as opposed to the BRDM?

I know a guy that lives in the UKR that is an expert with those...

Gas in the oil could be a bad diaphragm in the fuel pump.
It does have a mechanical fuel pump right? |

Cool.
Speedo goes up to 140kph. I don't think I'd wanna try that. |

It is a million times easier to work on. I already had most of the inside disassembled and ready to paint. Just need paint and my shop vac for final cleaning |

It's coming along very nicely.
I have a question does it have air conditioning? |
|

I was kind of kidding about the air conditioning I didn't think it would but it's going to be toasty in that thing in the middle of summer..

View Quote There are lots of options One is to run a fan off the 12vdc plug and a big fan. It won’t be bad. Especially while moving. At some point we can add an ac unit |

I have to know how available are these? This looks easy to work on and very easy to find parts

Would a MAG58/M240 fit in that turret?
Also, this A/C kit would be a fairly easy install, Classic Auto Air you'd just need to source a Sanden compressor, a condenser that would fit near the radiator, and the appropriate engine brackets. |
|
|
I saw this on FB last night when I was scrolling!
Awesome! With that simple of a drivetrain... Would a 4BT shoehorn into that engine compartment? Even if you had to switch to an SM465 / Passenger-drop 205 with an adapter from a Frito Lay truck... |

View Quote A 240 was made for it. Both tanker and regular versions. As far as AC goes I’ll get the fan working and it should be good enough |

A 4bt is about 300 pounds more. This thing is a rocket. It's about 9500 pounds unloaded with a 202HP V8 engine. Comparatively speaking, it's an armored bus with the soul of a sports car. When I backed it off the trailer (between seeing only sky and pissing my pants) I was amazed how smoothly it shifted. Way smoother than the BRDM. Fully synchronized in all gears. |

There are a lot of lightweight diesel you could put in there but I don’t know that it’s worth the money to do so.

I think for fun driving gas could be where it’s at. Operationally I would want a diesel. But that’s very different.
|
|
|
The gas engines don't put off nearly the heat of diesel. you're way better off with a gasoline engine.
Gasoline is also less maintenance intensive.. |
|
|
I don’t know. I’ve never had to replace a spark plug on a diesel.

Gassers don't use DEF. Gassers don't use 15 quarts of oil. Deisel has advantages for sure., but that thing isn't going to see the high mileage numbers needed to show the advantages over time. |
|
|
Why would you use DEF in a 1975 vehicle?
The major advantages of diesel I’m this application are power and lack of secondary explosions. |
|
|
Lucky it had all that grease mixed in with that junk in the front otherwise that would have been a fucking Rusty ass mess

If you have not tried one, ultrasonic cleaner on the carb works wonders. Vaporhone will make it pretty with glass beads.

nothing of value here

Depending on what the body shop says I might have a 2 liter BMW diesel and ZF 8 speed for a project.
