I need to relocate a trouble cat that comes to the house nightly and causes damage. The cat will not enter the box trap I have so I'm out of humane options. I'm hoping some of you all may have the same issue. I have leg traps but I don't want to catch an innocent cat in one of them. Any ideas?

If the cat is "innocent " why trap it?
Something just ain't adding up! |

It will enter the trap.
You need to leave the trap out. Feed the cat for several days with food OUTSIDE the trap. Then move some food into the trap and reduce the food outside the trap. |
|
|
How and where do you plan to "relocate" the cat once you catch it?

I caught a cat in my big coon size live trap, and a crow, and 4 skunks, and a few coons.

If the cat won't go in the havahart then you're not using the right bait.
Try canned tuna, Vienna sausages, chopped up ham... |
|
Havaheart or Harbor Freight equivalent.
Smear sardines, canned tuna/salmon, or soft cat food on the trip plate. You'll have your cat within 24 hours. |
|
Wire a Havahart type trap's door to stay open.
Place straw over the trigger. Place food cat cannot resist a few feet away. Every night move food a bit closer to the trap. After a week or so place food in door of trap and every night move food deeper into trap. When the cat is comfortable eating out of the trap un-wire the door from open. Have patience the trick is to use food the cat finds irresistible. |

View Quote +1 It’s trap shy and may have been caught before, so you need to put food outside and slowly move it to the entrance and then eventually on the other side of the trip lever. |

You need Drop trap. There will be feral control Facebook groups around you that are packed fill of crazy cat naked who will come help you.
I just finished trapping and neutering about 15 of them. I think I'm dating like 3 of the cat ladies now. They keep offering to come help. Even though I've got my entire colony. Search for feral, trap release, t&r, TNR in Facebook and you'll find them. Someone will loan it rent you a drop trap. |

Raccoon live trap will trap a cat, the only issue is getting it to come to the bait. Neighbor trapped dozens of another neighbors cats that way (Neighbor on one side of me had 30 cats - other neighbor would trap them and take them to a free spade and neuter clinic and get them adopted out).

Use a havaheart trap. It’ll work. Oil the trigger and set it at the very edge. Use tuna.
Arrange things around the trap so he has to go in. C’mon man. You can outthink a cat. |

Quoted: That's what I'm doing. Cat tries to get the tuna from outside the trap and triggers it from moving the cage. Cat tries to get the tuna from outside the trap and triggers it from moving the cage. Try tying it down or attaching it to a board so he can't move it. Every time I bait the trap the deer just roll it around to get the bait. |

Tuna in the trap should work. Place the side of the trap against something solid so he can't walk around it.
If he's spraying he's not fixed. Get him fixed and he'll bring you presents everyday. Rats, mice, moles, bunnies, snakes, etc. I've got/had several. Once they discover the free food they make pretty good inside/outside cats too. |
