There were plenty of French military long arms. New England militia companies acquired something like 20,000 1728? Charleville muskets when they captured Louisbourg during King Georges war. The militia men were required to have not only a military grade firelock but also bayonet or sword/tomahawk and cartridge box.
I love the fact that they could be fined for NOT having all the proper equipment. How far Massachusetts has fallen is sad and disgusting.
