The point here is that the design is still viable after the initial flight almost 70 years ago. Yes, the airframes are much newer than currently flying B-52s, but the airframe engineering was almost perfect for the mission they were designed for, and worthy of still being in production.
Like the CH-47, the original design that first flew in 1961, and still being built today..
