My friend and I had stopped a 7-11 to fill up my tank and get some coffee. We paid for our coffee and got back in the truck and drove off talking. Until I heard the "THUNK" I had forgotten I was filling up. Gas was spewing on the ground and I had the nozzle hanging out of my truck with the hose attached.
I had to hit the pump nozzle area to get it to shut off. The 7-11 guy comes out and I ask what I need to do. His just hit the recipet button hands me my reciept and said. "It happens all the time, it has a quick release. I'll call it in and get it hooked back up." I am a dumbass. Sorry no pics, I didn't have my camera with me. |
Ive often wondered what thought process has to not occur for that to happen.
Yep. And they let us pump it ourselves too! Of course, look what happens! |
Ummm yeah... they are gas stations youknow. |
I was behind a co-ed that did that a few years ago. We were going to the same apartment building so I had the joy of pointing it out to her when she got out. Pretty funny, the gas station was about 3 miles down the road and she had no clue it had happened.
That's some funny stuff dude.
Thanks for publicly humiliating yourself for our enjoyment |
That's ok, you probably would have left the lens cap on anyway. |
No, more of a humiliation feeling. |
To give myself a little credit, I didn't drive off with it. |
LOL, no biggie, man. Who around here hasn't done something stupid?
It really does happen all the time. 2 minutes to hook it back up.
My dad did that once on a cross country trip. He just took the nozzle out and kept on driving.
I lost a little respect for him that day because he didn't go back and offer to make ammends. |
If that's the case then forget about it. No (serious) harm no foul. Most of us have done plenty of stupid things in our life. Often it has involved alcohol. |
Not really........the ones where I grew didn't have gas(not like an AM/PM), they were just convience stores......Beers and munchies, yea! Travis P.S. Now that I think of, same with the few I have seen here in Texas. |

I've seen this happen twice before, both on the same damn day. In two different states. Funny as hell.
Did you arrest yourself for vandalizing private property?
Did you have a dog with you you could have shot, So many details left out...... |
I did it once. Cracked my taillight. My grandma was in the car and had no idea it happened.
No but I saw one of my fellow po-po's driving up and so I hightailed it out of there once the 7-11 guy said I didn't have to do anything. I hope he didn't see me. Otherwise I will go through hell when I go back to work. |
It amazes me that it happens so often the pipe has a quick release....that's more worrying.
Taffy |
And yes, they do. |
No joke. I bought this plastic container thingie the other day, you know, to store odds and ends in. It's got a picto-gram on it showing mongoloid asstards step by step how not to put babies in it and put the lid on. What's more, baby wouldn't fit in the thing unless it was a very, uh, "flat" baby. You'd have to put the baby in and stand on the lid, but they put the warning on there anyway. Lawsuits? Are some people that dumb? Both, I guess. It is a frightening planet. |

I had a guy do something similar at a gas staion I worked at in high school. In this case we had two single post on each end of the pump island. It was icy out and the guy cam in to fast. Hit one of the posts, bent it over a little and the front bumper slid up and over it. We had to call a towtruck to get him off the post. The funny thing was he only came in for some windshield washer fluid. |
I could make a phone call or two, just for you..... |

Dang, I just cant win........ |

I worked at a carwash/gas station when I was in highschool.
Never a dull moment...! A few times a month a gas nozzle and hose would get ripped out by the roots. (this was back in the olden days before "smart nozzles") Outside mirrors would be ripped off cars by the brushes. Antennas would get ripped out also and if you were really lucky it would wrap itself around the overhead brush and beat the following car to death. People would spazz out driving into the track---turn the wheel and jump the track---and frequently the front end of car would fall into the waterpit and get stuck. Damn, goodtimes...! |
For a minute there, I thought you had gotten married. Thank god you only destroyed some property. |
Just brilliant..... thanks Taffy |
...and TWO rear-view mirrors worth of "I didn't see it" for that guy. |
Echo It makes me laugh when I see on a container(could be absolutely anything)...."do not ingest".....shit you could put that on anything. .223 wolf ammo...(Warning "do not ingest") Taffy Ford Truck wheels nuts..(Warning "do not ingest") etc |

Guilty as charged!! |

Did it once myself.
Fortunately for my ego it was about 1 in the morning and virtually no one else was around. I still felt like an incredible idiot! As is typical to many types of accidents (to include those with firearms), I had allowed myself to become distracted and forgot the proper sequence of events. Nowadays, the last thing I always do before pulling away from the pump is check my outside rear view mirror to make sure the little door to my gas cap is closed. Live and learn I guess! |
here in nevada it's a crime if you drive off when this happens and there is a $500.00 or some such penalty when you stay and own up to it. almost seems they want you to drive off...
FYI, the little round tubey thing with a hole in it points AWAY from you when you shoot....................Here's your sign.
I thought you were going to admit to buying a Ruger or somesuch.
Don't worry about it. No flames, no foul. |
I did that once. Felt like a complete dumbass. The hoses use the standard quick connects like on farm implements, I actually hooked it back up myself.
Still, felt dumb as hell. The chic that was with me thought it was funny though. |
I presume you had to pay for every drop that got pumped, rather than every drop that made it into your tank.
Here in FL, I don't know of a 7-11 that DOESN'T sell gas. CJ |
I had a station owner tell me they have to recalibrate the pump after that happens. Is that not true?
One a few blocks away from where I grew up at has gas and 7-11. |
I thought only women did that. |
