I reloaded my HK USP, and when setting the decocker the handgun discharged. Only because I was practicing proper procudures in pointing the muzzle in a safe direction was any major damage or injury/death avoided.
Sucker goes to HK tomorrow for them to look at - I'm really upset as Im a stickler for safety and handling, and then this happens. |
Holy shit! I hope their customer service is good. How old is this gun and how much use has it had?
Dang...an HK that malfunctioned. I've never heard of a Deocker on an HK failing...
Damn! I've always been afraid of that with my Sig p220 but it never went off. Glad everyone is ok
Glad everyone is ok. Good thing you were practicing good muzzle discipline.
Hope HK makes it right for you. |
Tag for more info/outcome.
I've got a USP 45 full size. First time I've ever heard of this kind of malfunction. An honest-to-God AD not an ND. |
Makes me a little nervous about using decock on my USPc 45.
Hope they get it fixed and its not a common problem... |
I'm glad you weren't hurt. How hard was that heart pounding after the shot?
There was a thread about this a while back. As usual, the sanctimonious Rambos had to chime in with their "If you don't trust your weapon, don't own one.... You need more training.... etc...." BS. The fact is shit happens, it doesn't matter what gun you have. Don't take any chances when you don't need to, I always guide the hammer with my fingers when using the decocker with my USP.
Kind of hard to do with the stubby little USP compact hammers. |
Bummer! How is your hearing now? Bet that sombitch was loud inside the house!
I'm not familiar with that gun. Is it the similar to the decocking lever on a Sig 220?
The Sig lets it down gently. The HK lets it fly. I have both. I will be interested to read the outcome of this. |
Never trust a mechanical safety. They will fail. Only pistol I ever sold was a Taurus w/ a decocker. Never trusted it
Hopefully HK will do you right. |
HOLY CRAP.
Good thing you were practicing good control. This is a very big deal. I hope HK tells you how it was possible. |
Don't leave us hangin'.
What variant? New or used? Round count? Totally stock or mods made? |
What year is your gun?
Opps, forget it, the prefix is just the model number. You can find the year here. www.hkpro.com/symbols.htm |
You don't say anything about your trigger finger position in the post.
You can actually install a standard hammer on a USP compact. Seen it done a bunch of times. With this issue that is definitely what I'm gonna do. |

Yes I'm still upset as It could have been a very deadly situation. I'm kicking myself as I've never had a discharge where I wasn't in full control of the firearm and on target. Worse still, I was instructing a UK exchange student on the safety and handleing of firearms when it happened and I feel like an ass.
From the resources that I have, apparently this isn't an unknown occurance. My wife was freaked out as well as my kids. I'm still pretty pissed off. It's a 9mm KI date code 27-013XXX SN |
As always, off the triiger and alongside the trigger guard. |
dont feel bad i shot my ceiling on my brithday
14 of june to be exact |
tag. glad no one was hurt and no popo came to arrest you for discharging a weapon (if such a law would apply to you). |

Glad everyone's OK. Glock lovers will have a blast(kaboom?) with this. |
Prolly 1000 rounds throught it, It's stock from HK, V1, and WAS my daily carry piece. I'm going back to my Colt CCO now. This one when it get's back from HK and my other USP full size will go up for sale asap. |
Not an unknown occurrence at all. One of my fraternity brothers shot his left ring finger off and severed his left femoral artery due to a failure to observe Rule #1, in conjunction with a USP9 decocker failure.
DUDE! WE NEED SOME PICTURES OF YOUR FLOOR!
Glad no one was hurt. -MEI |
At least you are smart person and were practicing safety procedures, cause you never know when SHIT could happen.
So, 1998. Man, this is bad news. BTW, how often do you use the decocker? |
How did that happen? How does the decocker on an HK USP work for this to happen?
I used the decocker at least 3 times a week on average, |
just to clarify.... you inserted a mag, cycled the action (thus chambering a round), and then depressed the decock lever?
Correct |
Never happend to me, but my buddy shot his floor with a kimber that had a faulty safety. Of course he pulled the trigger to see if the safety was on.
Yeah I never cared much for those decockers that just let the hammer slam home. Scary and I don't care whose brand is stamped on the gun. Mechanical devices can and will fail.
Really glad no one was hurt, that would have scared the crap out of me. Just wow. |
