I am getting ready to start purchasing parts for a build and I was curious what was the cheapest in price you have built a complete AR for. I am talking standard handguards, nothing flashy, no optics, (((K.I.S.S.)))

I want to see how low a person can go and still build a quality AR.

Give specs if possible.

I wasn't going for the cheapest build when I did this one because I wanted all new parts. I might try for a super cheap build down the road.

I must admit I went a little overboard on my first build, it came in at right around $2,800.00

If I stay on track my current build will be a much more reasonable $1950.00.

not necessarily a build but i'll list some parts i've gotten cheap on the EE

and yes sniping it is a must

Daniel Defense 7.0 w/ two Tango Down rail covers = $200 Like New
MI QD sling mount = $18 Like New
DD Burnsed Loop Sling Plate = $20 New in Box
Used CL'd 1/7 M4 profile complete Colt bbl = $175 90% good
VLTOR Stock (just the stock) = $60  Like new in Box
Aimpoint M2 w/ Mount and Rubber Cover = $250 or so  85% good but works perfect
GGG MAD BUIS = $80  Like New
TD Vert Grip = $45  Like New
Harris Bipod = $45  Like New in Wrapper

to me that's some pretty damn good deals on stuff and goes to show that being an obsessive compulsive EE checker is the way to go

I did an all new RRA build on the cheap.
New RRA stock of the EE $40
New RRA lower from buddy at local shop $95
New RRA upper from pete at Legal transfers $419
New RRA LPK from Eagle $55
New RRA marked carry handle from the EE $50

Thats $659 for a New RRA middy with a chrome lined Barrel.

With the Carry handle and the chrome lind barrel, the cheapest one I coud find new was a little over $800. plus shipping.  So I saved $150 and had a good time putting it all together.

Well right now I havent started off that great (cheap wise) but I did pick up a nice upper for 365.00.

16" Fluted Bull Stainless, railed gas block and FF tube. It was built byTeppo Jutsu

Well the best I could do. All part's COLT except the lower (bushmaster Bought 10 back in early 90's) Was about $600 includeing new M4 Hand gards and Larue BUIS. Got the M4 upper With ramps on the EE for $50 brand new. Saw it in the background of an add and asked if it was for sale. Guy sayed yes. Did not know who made it. Nearly passed out when I opened the Box when I got it! P.S. Please no "Whats the most expensive Buld you ever did" I would get killed if wife ever saw it!

I bought a new factory Eagle Arms/Armalite rifle for under $600 because there was a "cosmetic blemish" on the upper.  Like I care.  I can barely even FIND it if I am looking for it.  Score

I also built a doublestar lower up with a M16A1 upper for just under $500.

$60 16" barrel on the EE
$60 stripped 9mm A3 upper, drilled a gas port on my own
$6 port door and spring
$100 stripped lower receiver
$44 DPMS LPK
$15 el cheapo CAR-15 buttstock
$20 walmart scope
spare set of triangle handguards, say $15
used BCG (including a COLT bolt I got for $35 at the gunshow) $80 total

Yes, it was ugly.  The barrel is gone now, and most the parts recycled for other projects.  But it did function, and got a lot of comments at the range the one time I brought it out.

I call BS on $180 for that rifle- did someone give you most the parts for free??? Otherwise you had to trade something of value or pay $ for those parts.

C'mon stick, fess up...

Honest to goodness price for all parts, the cheapest I've done is just around $351.

M16A1 upper from a gun show dealer (new, but bought second hand) $250, including BC/CH.

Stag Arms lower (bought with 9 other lowers, so the transfer and shipping were reduced greatly). Total price on the lower, $81.

Traded some H&K mags I got free for a lower parts kit, $0.

M16A1 buttstock and pistol grip from a local show, $20.

And, oddly, it's my favorite AR!

I did not build one but a few years back SARCo had some M16A2 kits less the lower that started out (if memory serves) at $190.00 and in the course of a few weeks they shot up in price. More than a few people jumped on that and with a bit of refinishing and new lower they were in there for not much money

Now about this $180.00 build there stick, come off the info
