it's (12+10+10) x 30 = 960 rounds of 5.56, so figure there's ~30lbs right there.

i don't know how many  rounds the 9mm colt mags hold though, so the total tally will have to wait until the author chimes in.

They are nice, but not worth the price.  Upgrade your teflon mags to Magpul followers, and you will have similar gains at a much lower price.  I've got HK mags that I use, but I don't find them worth it.

About 35lbs.

You don't want to know!

"What's the deal with the HK AR mags? How do they compare to the teflon Labelles?

The HK mags are better, they load and unload smoother. Some say they are not worth the extra money. I have to use them longer to make the evaluation.

Correct. 960 rds of 5.56mm. The 9mm mags hold 32 rds, 192 rds of 9mm. 1152 rds of ammo.

Yes but thats three different bullet weights (55,62,75).  Which are you sighted in for?  Do you know the click settings on your sights to quickly get to zero on each different bullet weight?  Looks sweet, just not sure how practical 3 different weight bullets would be in a SHTF scenario.

Most SHTF situations are 100 meters or less. So I think your point, albit a good one, is moot.

Thanks for the kind words.

The ammo cans that I get are at local gun shows. I have 3 so far. I get them for $10 OTD.

The mags fit perfect in them. Two M-16 30 rd mags front to back is the exact width of the 40mm can.

Here is pic to show the size differences between the 40mm, .50 cal, and .30 cal cans.

Some of the 9mm mags are stored in the box lips down. Wouldn't the lips get damaged if the box were to get dropped?

Looks like you have a good start - but have you considered.....

I'm assuming this is stored at your house or your bunker with your MREs, water, and other survival supplies and that you don't carry this can around with you everywhere you go.  If something did go down, and you weren't near your house, what do you have on hand to fight your way back?

Do you have your AR and some loaded mags with you at all times?  Do you have pre-planned primary, alternate, and tertiary routes to get back to your house depending where you are located?

Are you cycling your mags out if you planned on keeping them stored for ages - especially since you have the USGI mags filled to 30 rounds - not the recommeded 28.

Just some thoughts, otherwise you have a good start.  If I am ever in FL and something goes down at least I know who I can hit up for a resupply.

There's no need to cycle mags.  Springs weaken by being compressed and uncompressed repeatedly (loaded then unloaded).  Keeping them continuously compressed doesn't affect them.  And what's this about "the recommended 28" rounds?  I've always read that the only reason mags were originally loaded to 28 instead of 30 rounds was because of problems with the springs/followers of the original issue mags when the M16 platform was first adopted.  With modern springs and followers this is also a non-issue.  Unless of course I've missed something.

Also, that's very cool but damn if it isn't a lot of money.

Sorry was out of town.

The bottom of the can I have padded with the same foam as the sides. So I doubt any damage would take place.

But for SHTF, you're better off putting it in a water cooler or something else just as benign.
Water & maybe airtight, it allows you go about your business looking harmless.

Bought some saw cans from Coleman's.  The condition of the cans were as described on their website or better.  The shipping is a bitch though.  Was going to buy a bunch of 40mm cans but the shipping was just too much so I went with the saw cans instead.

I consider the 40mm cans to be the perfect ammo storage can with the the saw cans a close second.  A full 40mm can of 5.56 or 7.62 can still be carried by one person, is built very stout, and have great seals on them.  The 50 cal cans are just too small for storing large quantities of ammo.

Fuze can AKA Proximity Fuze can...

Will Hold 24 30rd mags in a 6x4 arrangement.  Plus more stacked on top.

26 steel SAR80 mags,  and 780 rounds of Wolf 556 weighs a LOT.  I mean a LOT.

I would really like to get a final weight for that 40mm can fully loaded.  Throw that sucker on a scale please.
