NEW PICS BELOW!
i have two builds in progress, and i was going to hold off on sharing just yet, but now that they are each about 75% done, i can't keep it in any longer... this first one is the build that my abrams rail from one of my previous threads is going on. 1) bushy lower with VLTOR collapsible stock and tango down grip. 2) CMT M4 upper (ramped) 3) abrams CAS-VM midlength rail system 4) ARMS#40 BUIS 5) yes folks, that's a bushy 11.5/5.5 barrel to go on it. i am planning on sending it in to adco to have the bayo lug and FSB shaved on it, handguard cap removed, contoured behind the FSB, then gunkoted OD green. updated pics- it's almost done! just need the front sight, and eventually an aimpoint. incidentally, because i can never make up my mind, everything on this but the lower is for sale now in the EE. and now back to the SP-3, which is still waiting on parts. finally got the launcher in, but i am still waiting on the upper to come back. however, i think it will be going under changes, to the tune of a colt gov't profile barrel with a 1/7 twist. if i get my way, it will also get a TA31RCO-A4. this one i am affectionately calling the 'SP-3'. 1) bushy lower with VLTOR A1 length clubfoot stock with SOG pad. currently has a SPR grip on it, but i am planning on changing it to an OD green tango down like on the first build. 2) colt SP-1 barrel on a CMT A3 upper (get it? SP-3?). sucks, the A3 receiver is out of spec, gotta send it back and get a new one. 3) the FUN piece is still coming... have a M203 clone coming in, with an anodized OD green barrel to match the furniture. still gotta get a BUIS for it. for now, i may run a LMT BUIS and eotech combo on it. if the SEBR doesnt break me, i am planning on getting one of the new ACOG TA31RCO-A4s for it. but we will have to wait and see. anyhoo, thanks for letting me rant on my MEGA frankensteined ARs here, but if they weren't just a little crazy, they wouldn't be mine... |
What profile? Since the FSB won't be visible, why not do it yourself, to include the refinishing? |
i thought about it, but i want to have it contoured also, and i don't have a lathe, etc. figured it would just be easier to let them do it. it is an HBAR barrel now.
however, the thought did cross my mind before i decided i wanted it contoured to go ahead and shave it myself, then go hardcore and KRYLON it. EDIT: but while we are on the subject can you think of an easy way to get the handguard cap off other than cutting it? |
got it through a miracle from GandR Tactical (C4iGrant). this was the only one that was NOT a complete upper (again, kind of a miracle situation), and he gunkoted it to match the receiver. it is freakin' gorgeous! |
I will have to give Grant a call.......Thanks |
i want to reiterate that he DOES NOT offer the barrels separately, but he does have them as complete uppers. i got my barrel through a wonder of circumstance.
very nice, I also have a Sp1 pencil barrel laying around. Looking for ideas :)
what you gonna build ? are you gonna use some type of FF or A2 handguards ? ETA: building ARs is so much fun !!!!!!..the BRD strikes again |
but of course!
yup, BRD is definitely a dangerous disease! on the SP-3, i am going to mount a M203 replica (flare launcher), so it has its own type of handguard (the big squared off ventilated thingamajig). the cool thing about the M203 that i am getting is that, while it was not my first choice for brand, the shop i am getting it from had the barrel annodized in OD green to match green furniture, which this has. i just got off the phone ordering it, and just ordered two more OD tango down grips, so we are just about there! should be some new pics coming next week! |

I just picked up that A1 clubfoot for a dissapator set up I have, loven it!
i love vltor stuff, an awesome mod, indeed!
i have a black VLTOR standard carbine stock that needs a home... hmmm... what to build next? silly BRD... |
That rail system you have in the first pic is sick looking. Can't wait to see the final product.
done homey, sorry i was asleep. and i think i mistook your IM... shit... i don't have any coyote pieces, only black cheekweld adapters. lemme know whats up... |
basically, it won't sit down far enough in the back for the takedown pin to go through it and attach it to the lower. i tried two bushmaster lowers and neither would take it. it's as if they did not machine the rear takedown stub on the upper short enough, it's about 1/16 or 1/32 of an inch too long. pretty simple deduction... |
indeed it is. i wish they would have kept it in production. the company that made it (abrams) was bought by VLTOR, if i am not mistaken, and i don't believe they have plans to continue making them. |
nobody that i know of, it has been out of production (if you can call it that) for a little while. i got mine from another member in the equipment exchange. they pop up once in a blue moon.
What are you doing with the sierra grip? I'm looking for a used one to try out. IM me if you're looking to get rid of it.
Nice builds, good luck with 'em. |
i am crossing my fingers, this whole deal with the A3 receiver may throw it off, but i am trying my damnedest.
still waiting on parts...
finally got the A3 upper sent back yesterday, so i hope to have it back by mid-end of next week, and still waiting on my M203 clone, which i expected in by now... but on the plus side, i did get a few more tango down grips in, and got a TDI vert foregrip for the carbine. that thing rocks! somebody please convince me i don't need an ACOG for the SP-3. please... EDIT: i am foreseeing LOP (more like length of arm) problems with the SP-3. think it would fuck it up if i went with a VLTOR carbine stock instead of the A1 stock? i also have a cavarms C1 stock i am thinking of putting on there. hmmmm... |
You dont need the acog, around here you wont be able to shoot it enough to enjoy it.
I would get something like this if I wanted optics for it. www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=55767 |
i don't know... the acog sure is pretty... and rugged... and high quality... and... cute... |
true, that! and with the SEBR just announced, that ACOG is looking farther and farther away. now an aimpoint for the carbine, that's another question. |
They look really cool 75% done- just don't forget to post pics of 100% done
Hey Hank where did you pick up the abrams from that would look good on my RRA you should just let me barrow it |
got it used on the equipment exchange. keep an eye out, they pop up every once in a while. |
first post updated with new pics- the carbine is about 90% done.
still waiting on parts for the SP-3. edit: sorry for the red x's, appears i have exceeded my bandwidth on villagephotos for a day or so... |
bumpizzle, my nizzles. i also have pics of 'the pig' here, which was going to be the 'SP-3'.
