Please vote ONLY if you own an XD in .45acp

Service or Tactical model is ok.
------------------
How many rounds have you fired from your XD .45 without a "Catastrophic"
Failure ? ( broken parts , Kaboom , etc. )

------------------
All comments on general XD reliability and function are welcome .

Comments on ammo specific malfunctions would be interesting also.

But the  Point of the poll is  to obtain some real world data on
how the XD .45 holds up after extensive firing. (the more rounds the better )

The only failures I had was day one, right of the box, no cleaning or lubrication.  Just did'nt care for the truncated WWB .45, ate 200 rds. of Wolf FMJ round nose no problem.  Cleaned, lubed and no issues with the WWB or any other brand thus far.
May well be the most accurate pistol I own as well.

I voted on the 1000 mark because Im just a bit shy of having 2K through mine. I had 2 misfeeds with mine right off the bat (in the first 50 rounds). At about the 750 round mark I had an ammo issue where the pistol performed badly but it was centered on the ammo as my other three 45's wouldnt eat it either. The XD45 seems to be less ammo fussy than my other 45's except maybe my G21. The XD eats ammo my Kimber wont even chamber. My XD is my favorite of my 45's because of its good accuracy and reliability combined with its high capacity and low recoil.

i own 4 springfield xd's

9mm subcompact
service .40 bitone
service .357sig
tactical 9mm

one issue I have is that the slide doesn't always stay open after the last shot.   Its the way I hold the pistol and i am still working on it.

"rust".   i wear these thing's in the comptac C-T.A.C holster.  I wear the holster all day long, the pistols when i leave work.   i wear them at the range sweat and all(90+ degree weather).   after 3 or 4 trips to the range and you will start to see some "rust".

i'll try to get a picture of the family.  then some of the "rust"

I've only got around 700-800 rounds through my XD45 service.  About 500 of those have been Wolf 230 grain, the others have been WWB 230 grain.  No failures of any kind and no problems with slide lock on last shot.

Almost forgot about those 5 rounds of 230 grain hydra-shok on those 4 raccoons.

Which parts are rusting?   Is it a case of the finish wearing off?

I've only dumped about 700 rounds through mine but no malfunctions of any kind other than a intentional limp wrist stovepipe.
ETA: ammo used has been S&B, WWB, UMC value packs, Remington Golden Saber, Black Hills red box and Hornady TAP +P
ETA: service model

I have about 400 rounds through mine, and it shoots flawless with all ammo except Blazer Brass 230gr FMJ.  It misfed 4 times from two boxes.  Everything else I feed it, including Magtech, UMC, and HydraShoks, it shoots like a champ.  I haven't had any other problems since I finished off the Blazer, even with intentionally trying to jam it through limp wristing.  I haven't cleaned it since I first brought it home.

I love this pistol, especially because of it's price compared to it's performance.  To think I almost dumped $900 on an HK USP...

Voted 500 or more.  I have around 600 through my .45 Tac.  No malfunctions yet.  Ammo so far is WWB, UMC, and Corbon.  Shot it in IDPA 2 weeks ago with no probs either except the gravel that got in the magazine, just had to pop apart the mag and clean it out.  took 2 minutes.

the xd45 has a MUCH different finish than the rest of the xd familiy. they won't rust.

Has SA mentioned of they plan on using the Melonite finish on the whole XD product line?

They have not yet made an official statement, but many think they are just waiting to sell off their remaining inventory of non-melanite finishes before anything official.  If they said all new guns would have the new finish, they'd have a hard time selling off their old inventory.

Aren't the poll questions worded, in such a manner that they don't really prove anything?  I mean, you are getting a snapshot of right now, but none of the answers would indicate if someone did have a failure, and if they did, at what round count.  I voted over 500, but what happens if my gun blows up at over 1000 rounds?  What would I vote then, if I could change my vote?  My catastrophic failure would never get recorded.

I did ,however, vote over 500 rounds through my XD45ACP Tactical.  I have shot both Blazer Brass and Wolf through it, with no problems at all. Save for one failure to return to battery with the Wolf.  I smacked the slide a little, and it went the rest of the way forward.

I have about 750+ thorugh my XD-45 with no problems whatsoever.  I also have an XD-40 that has over 2000 through it with no problems.  I know it's a different gun but it's the same operating system so I thought I would post that information as well.

LOL It was late at night when I posted the poll

Of course IF anyone has Major Problems they should post it.!

The object is just to  get an Idea of the number of Rounds through the Gun without
Major problems

Its not meant to get a total of failures

I had issues with some really crappy reloads and CCI brase stuff.

The relaods I had were very cheap and were like shooting black powder. They gumed the action up pretty bad and caused the rounds nose dive and jam inside the magazine.

The CCI brase had as isse with the bullets not being crimped and the bullets were being pushed back into the case and causing a ftf.

I still never had any issue with wolf or any top shelf brands.

XD Service

Already voted at <250 rounds.  Broke 500 this last weekend.  Zero (0) malfunctions so far  Hydra-Shok,.

The XD45 ate them all without a hitchI am beginning to really like & respect this gun, and I'm a dyed-in-the-wool 1911 guy.

A better question might be if you've had a malfunction....
With just over 2700 rounds through mine I've never had any issues.
My shooting partner has well over 3500 through his with no issues either.
We've both used everything from wally world Winchester White box to Black Talons with no issues.

I took my service .45 out of the box and shot it without cleaning or oiling until I had a failure.  That was over 600 rounds and was a FTF that could (probably) was ammo related.  I cleaned and oiled it and have gone another 1400 rounds or so (occsionally cleaned) with two FTF's that were cased by a mag failure (dropped it in the dirt during a mag change and it needed cleaning).  It's been fantastic.  Not only has it out performed every other pistol I have tested it's accurate and easy to handle.  I'd get another without hesitation.

I was going to get a Glock 21 but I'm so hapy with the XD I don't see another Glock in my future.

I have over 700 rounds through my XD45 Tactical with no failures except a couple of reloads that I didn't crimp well enough. I'm still getting used to reloading pistol cases. The XD eats anything I put in the mags, from AE ball to RP Gold Dot to a lot of reloads with cast bullets.

I am a long time 1911 guy and I love my SA GI but 14 rounds and the ergonomics put the XD a close second.

Over 800 rounds of seven different brands of ammo. Flawless. Finish still looks new as well! It's my favorite hand gun.
Even though my Taurus PT745 is now working just fine, I am tempted to see what the dealer would give me for it in trade for a 5" tactical XD45. (We already have the 4" service model.) My son and I both just like the XD that much.

another 200 at a match today for my tactical without a hickup.
Slide doesn't lock open on empty frequently.

tell me about it.   i think its the way i hold the pistol

if i target practice slow fire i will typcially stay back,   but if i draw from my hogue speed holster take aim and fire a full magazine it doesn't always stay back.

firing one handed it locks back everytime

Do not buy an XD they are junk.

Every body knows Lorcin is much higher quality. I traded my XD .45 service BItone for a Lorcin and have never looked back. Get on the bandwagon people!!!! Lorcin is what every one who is anybody at the range has.

I shoot extensively using Mag-Tec 230gr. or Winchester White Box 230 gr. for practice. I carry and shoot Federal 230gr. HydraShocks. I have yet to experience any malfunctions. I am at over 2000 rounds through mine. Ill be reloading the empty cases and trying different reloads for plinking and paper punching very soon.
