When it comes to budget 1911s which is better? I saw on r/gundeals that there was a Taurus for sale at graysentinel.com. People in the thread were saying to go for Tisas or RIA. I don't know that much about Tisas and RIAs never felt good in the hand. Any thoughts?

My stainless Taurus has worked flawless since day one - it is a good gun and good accuracy - series 80 though.
Good for a first 1911. My Tisas Match, after I replaced most of the insides and parts, is a much better gun so far = more accurate, feels better in the hand, smoother functioning. Get the Tisas and upgrade it to suit your needs. |

Tisas. A few years ago when they were introduced to US shooters at sometimes sub $300 for a parkerized model got their foot in the door, and their quality for the price make them a great deal.

I would go with the Tisas.
I considered the Taurus years ago but went another direction. I remember being at the Taurus booth at a NRA show one year, picked up one of the 1911s and the thumb safety broke when I flipped it down. Don't know if the gun had been dropped earlier and caused that, or if it was a badly cast part. |

Tisas is not asking any cast parts these days. You can’t say that about most manufacturers

Had a Tisas Carry in .45 and a Duty in 9mm. Both needed an over sized FP Stop and work on the extractor. I had a Colt and Ruger, both in 9mm, that I should have kept. They were both so reliable it was boring.
