AR15.Com originated in 1996 as a mailing list for firearm enthusiasts. As the years passed and interest grew, a website came into existence to present those same enthusiasts with a means to collect, share, and explore information. Shortly afterwards, a bulletin board was added to create a more interactive experience for the growing list of users. The site was still in its infancy, but was growing in popularity.
In 2001, after a few years with troubled software and an ever expanding user base, AR15.COM scrapped the common software used throughout the internet and begin to create custom software for their users. The site changed to better handle the flow of information as well as a new goal, the long term storage of information. As site costs grew, the hobby quickly became a business, requiring the added support of the community in order to continue.
AR15.COM has since dedicated itself to continued improvements and expansion of services. Having secured top notch network services, hardware, and software, site work often entails a large amount of database tweaking and expanded coding to ensure everything is optimized and functioning at high levels. The stability of the site, which was often its greatest weakness, is now its biggest strength.
Over the years our focus has shifted from stability of the site, to the protection of our firearm freedoms. We must continue to teach firearm safety, promote our sport, and join with the countless other firearm supporters to strengthen our stand. The staff here is dedicated to the community and to this fight, working to improve our relationships with businesses and users alike. The future is in all our hands and those who have been a part of this site for years can attest that we will always strive to make everything around us better.
