Flip-up rear like this? (I have no affiliation with this vendor)

External Link to Tac-47 Industries

I think this is for the Gen 1 TWS rail though, but it may be possible to make it work on a Gen 2.

The only thing that steers me towards the TWS setup is the potential to basically double my sight radius with the irons.  The Attero mount would actually shorten it.

If TWS had a flip up rear sight available it would be a done deal. Not so hot on a fixed rear sight though.

Nice rifle BTW!  How do you like that optic setup?

D.

Thanks D! It is not as nice as yours though. The reason why I went with Attero is because it is very small and light setup, and because I can still mount my PO 3.5x21P without removing the red dot or having it interfere with the sight picture through the PO. The rudimentary iron sights are actually quite nice too. I got the white dot version, which helps in target acquisition. I figure that in SHTF situations, they'll do fine. I just recently got this setup together and don't have enough time behind the trigger to fully test it, so I'll probably do a more comprehensive review once I play with it some more.

Hands down the best shorty AK I have ever seen.  Looks factory...no, BETTER than factory.

What is the barrel length?

I actually haven't installed one yet, still need to find or make one for it.   Kvar has some Russian 5.45 bullet guides but it appears to be for a flat trunnion, my trunnion is round in this build.

I need to call them this week and confirm what they have.

I converted a Bulgarian BG for my round trunnion saiga. You have to be careful b/c it does start to get a little thin on the bottom. I just really prefer the look of the original BG.

Yeah, that bullet guide looks good.  Is this the one you used?  http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.php?productid=16321&cat=281&page=1

I still need to decide if I want to bolt it in or weld it.  That or or figure out a fixture to rivet it properly.

That looks awsome

Yea, but I go mine from a different site. You will also need to cut down the side of the BG to clear the 3rd rivet.

Do you have a better source for that bullet guide that doesn't rape on shipping like Kvar?

With the muzzle so close to the gas port, what size did you make the gas port?
Link Posted: 5/27/2012 11:19:07 PM EST
[#20]
Ended up with a .070" gas port, same as a krink.  I originally drilled it out to .0625" as recommend by another builder, but it was way under gassed, bolt carrier was barely making it to the ejector.  After double checking port alignment I pulled it apart and opened it up to the .070" and it ran 200~ rounds like a top.  Still feels a tiny bit under gassed but that's right where I want it since I plan on getting a suppressor for it down the road.
