Hmmm... Lots of options here.

I'm kind of gearing up my SAR 2 and Draco SBR project as backups to my AR as SHTF rigs, or for a pre-made one to give to trusted family.

Frankly, I can never shake my gut feeling is that chest rigs are rather "Walter Mitty" or wanna-be in character unless you were taking a class etc. OTOH, if there actually ever was a disaster, SHTF, looting etc. what would one do? Carry their mags in a Kroger's bag?

So IMO, it's needed.

One thought I have though is the need for a dump-bag since (I assume) none of us here are military and have access to more mags by the crate-load. I never see one on most people's rigs. I don't want to toss my mags on the ground and lose them, however, nor do I want to fumble with sticking them back in their original pouch, and waste time and get shot...

Fwiw, Midway USA has blackhawk chest rigs for about $50 $60 bucks... It may not be top tier gear, but for the occasional carbine class, shtf, zombie invasion, or get from point a to point b senarios, its a great product. I have a 4 mag w/2 pistol mag one for my AR15 and its great for what I need (really this gear sits in the closet 99.99% of the time). Now if you are planing on being in combat for an extended period of time, and need something a little more durable, then spend the extra $$ and get the tactical tailor AK chest rig!

Well the VTAC-LG arrived and I'm sad to say that it doesn't fit 5.45 mags

You can cram them in but there is no smooth way to get them out either top in or bottom in...either the locking tab or the floorplate snags them in place and they are really hard to get out. I'm disappointed in the rig for 5.45's but I think it would be great for 5.56 AR mags like it's intended...it's well made, comfortable and easily adjustable for a nice fit. Customer service with Viking was top notch before the sale, I've contacted them about a refund and hopefully they will be as accomodating on the product return.


The Elite holster is actually really nice and the XD40 is easy to draw and holster with the light mounted. I'll definately be keeping it.


So the hunt is on again for a suitable 5.45 rig I can mount the holster to the front on.



eta: I emailed Tom at VTac for a refund and got a confirmation to send in back in less than 10 minutes...now that's outstanding customer service!

The OSOE micro rig gets my vote.

Used it in a class used it a bunch practicing works for me.

Has anybody ordered rigs from Tantal's site? He has lots of stuff....

If your looking for and Eagle get in line because I was told June for this item. Al  other Eagle items are also long lead, Now if anyone finds them please let me and others know about it.
