I’ve been out of the AK game for a while but a buddy wanted to sell his nearly unfired SLR-107. He had 13 Mags with it but can’t identity what they are. There are 10 of the dull almost parkerized finished ones and 3 of the shiny ones. I’m guessing the shiny ones are Korean? The duller ones have zero markings on the spine. The darker finished one looks Bulgarian. If you look at the last strengthening rib where it meets the top of the mag, it has a 90 degree bend. IIRC this (and lack of markings) is typical of Bulgarian mags or similar Com-bloc, like Polish or Romanian. I have a few like that that came in a mixed bag of "Eastern European" mags long before the SK mags were on the market. I'd say you have 10 good mags and three that need to be tested and proven... |

Thanks. From my research and recollections back when I was in to AK’s the 10 mags look like Eastern European mags to me too. They feel heavier and lock into the gun very easily. The other three feel thin and don’t seem to fit all that well. I’ll get to shoot them in the next 2 weeks to see how they function. |

The steel reinforced feed lip/locking lug Bulgarian polymer mags from Gunmagwarehouse have been pretty fantastic for $14. PSA's 103 mags are also good in the $25-28 range. I didn't buy into AK's to beat up $50 magazines, so I'm a big steel guy with a few polys. |
