I keep some of it as neat bookshelf type pieces; I try not to throw too much of that kind of stuff away knowing that at some point it will be hard to find, and it might just be that last little piece to make your collection "complete".
Case in point - I'm about to spend like $40 on a 91/30 cleaning rod. |

No. I have the plastic bottle that came with my Saiga and that's it.
Now make the two part cleaning/lube solution yourself |

View Quote I do the same, I still have a couple of unopened Vepr cleaning kits still NOS in the packages and a couple extra cleaning rods. I also have a small collection of pouches both regular and RPK and also a drum mag pouch somewhere, and original slings for all our rifles plus some extras in case I buy something and want to "complete" it. Oil bottle I got today is super nice, NOS and shiny, was coated in cosmo of course so got to enjoy the cleaning experience again, lol. But it's amazing for a piece that's probably at least 70 years old. |

I've just got a bunch of the round ones that came with the imported rifles, and that came with the mag pouches. Back in the early 2000s if you bought a 4 mag pouch kit, it came with 4 European ( ribbed ) mags, a butt stock toolkit, and an oil bottle. I bought a bunch so I have / had a bunch. I got a plastic oiler bottle with my Arsenal SLR101S. I don't think my son's PSA GF3 came with one. He's got a leather mag pouch that holds six or seven mags, along with a cleaning kit, oiler, sight tool etc.

I have a bunch scattered throughout parts boxes here and there. Usually find em on the bottom when I'm looking for a small part. Dunno why I've kept them.

My old gun dealer gave it to my son for his birthday when I bought him his first AK47 back around 2015. ETA, could be a 4 or 5 mag pouch. I'll take pics and see. Wouldn't hurt to post pics. Not a bad idea for emergencies either, ya never know when you'll need to fo. |

That's a cool one. Mine is different. I think it's Hungarian. I apologize for not getting pics. I've been feeling rotten all day and laying on the couch. I just got up and grabbed a bath, starting to feel better now. I'll get the pics of the pouch in a couple of hours. Gotta try and eat supper. I get this way every couple of weeks.

Just got another bottle in the mail today, a Russian round two-spout, and have another arriving tomorrow which is a Russian square two spout, don't have pics of those yet, but they will look great next to the round Izzy bottle. Also have some oil bottles in the cleaning kits pictured but they are plastic, the kits are original EG issued cleaning kits in perfect condition, the one in vinyl with the flap snap is the early version and the other in cloth wrap is the later version, there's also part of an old German G3 cleaning kit in one of the pics with packets of "waffen ol", lol, cool stuff. Wondering if anyone else collects this kind of stuff? https://imgdump5.novarata.net/i4z8g8.jpg https://imgdump5.novarata.net/y39xrp.jpg https://imgdump5.novarata.net/yx5dnw.jpg So I got my other Russian bottle today, and seller actually threw in another one of the same bottles I got yesterday (round 2-spout), which was especially cool because it's a slight variant of that type of bottle made later with better stamping and no rounding off of the letters to accommodate the circle edges. Info on all these is hard to come by and there are some conflcts in info, please chime in if you have more data, but basically here's what I have so far: The square 2-spout is the earliest and was issued with the actual AK-47, the later round 2-spouts were made for the AKM, the single spout Izzy may or may not have been made for the SKS but some say it was definitely for AK's. There is one more variant for the AKM I don't have and it's the last model made with a completely different symbol and I can't find one for sale anywhere and only one pic so far. There are earlier metal bottles made for Mosins and Simonovs and other rifles going back to at least 1900, but these are all the ones for the AK that I currently know about. The second pic up above has some unmarked bottles that may or may not be some of the early oilers for Mosins and such. ETA: I should have looked at the caps on the two smaller ones, they are Finnish made by GW Sohlberg, the ones with the big SA on the front are also Finnish and also made by GWS, so I think I have all 4 versions of those! No markings at all on the largest bottle, still thinking that's early Russian. The square 2-spout seems to have originally had some kind of coating, which has unfortunately been worn badly in places, I could probably scrub the rest off and make it all shiny like the others but really don't want to scrub history so i'm gonna leave it and keep looking for one in better shape. https://imgdump5.novarata.net/bbbjyf.jpg And here's the pic of the late one that I don't have, and don't understand the significance of the triangle/circle stamp: https://imgdump5.novarata.net/x0r5pr.jpg View Quote the red and white plastic are Hungarian if you didn't already know... |

My supposition is that it's related to either a military district or large regional depot that has been around for some time (since that marking is still in use). Makes me wonder if anyone was ever able to confirm what the diagonal/vertical bisected square actually meant on Mosin and AK/AKM stock sets. This is obviously where my C&R and AK enthusiasm intersects |

Damn you Dragynn, I don't need anything else to collect... View Quote Sorry man! That sounds like a great collection of Hungarian pouches! The 5-cell canvas I own i'm pretty sure is Hungarian. I own one blue naval pouch which is kinda cool, I seem to remember it being Romanian. Yeah the red/white is the only plastic oiler I have, but I have an SA-85 so had to have the oiler set in addition to mags and pouches, and don't know if the Hungy's even made any metal ones. ETA: Okay had to go dig a bit, that 5-cell I have is actually a gray color, it's got a strap as well as belt loops and those are mustard colored, it has a pocket for the oil bottle, but also has a skinny pocket that looks like it's for a standard cleaning kit, guess they weren't using buttholes in their stocks at the time? ETA2: Found another one just like it, it had loaded mags in it. I need to go through all that stuff, found me an easter egg in there, a lone EG mag in pristine condition albeit with an incorrect floorplate, may have been why I segregated it from the others but it's been in that pouch now for like 6-7 years and I had forgotten about it. |

Yeah so I was out in the shop yesterday dealing with the cosmo on the oil bottles, wife walks out to see what i'm doing, when she gets close she sniffs the air a couple times and says "That doesn't smell like your usual shop cologne", I was confused, I said "shop cologne?" And she points at a bottle of Hoppe's #9 on my bench.
I said "Baby what you're smelling now is commie cologne, they're like TV chefs are with olive oil, they put that shit on EVERYTHING". |

I guess now I can play since I was going through some of my stuff and found this EG AK cleaning kit with fresh communist rifle juice still inside.

Probably not that interesting to most folks, but going through my box of bottles now, and there's at least 5 different variants in the same basic type of Russian oil bottles, they differ in the size/shape of the font, placement, depth of indentation on the circle, and some very obviously had a coating on originally that has worn off for the most part.
Can't help but wonder about their history, and why the differences, whether they were made in different places, or just changed tooling in the same factory. My shop cat is helping, lol. |
