Thinking about getting a SAM7SF for the collection, but I am also intrigued by the Romanian Century AES-10b RPK made by Cugir. I've owned a few SAM7s previously, and a SAM5 and am thinking of the SF SAM7. But I've also never owned an RPK. Am I missing out by not getting an RPK or no? It'd be my only AK back in my collection so I'm wondering if the SAM7SF is more practical, or I should say screw it and get the RPK?

I have two of the early AES-10B rifles. They were assembled in Romania from dismantled RPKs.
I never get tired of them. Installed NOS Russian furniture and bipods as the early AES-10B came with a removable PKM bipod that was too short. Much lower felt recoil that a standard AK. Before:  After:  Recent:  I suppose there are semi-auto beltfeds that function, but my mag feds have been 100% reliable. Best bang for the buck IMO.   At one point ATF reinterpreted a "sporting" clause and "semi-auto parts rifles built from military parts" were no longer importable. The AES-10B rifles currently being imported are 100% new parts - aside from US parts they are assembled at Cugir. Why they can't include a cleaning rod is baffling. Modern Cugir RPK. Very similar to the modern AES-10B. Bipod is removable. The "blonde" furniture is current production. Some time in the 2000's Cugir stopped making them with laminate furniture.

I waited months and months for him to finally get a lot in that came with the original full length bipod and not either the short PKM bipod or the later adjustable bipod that is unique only to Romania. Matching core parts dated 1969. They're great fun to shoot and always are attention getters when you bring them out to the range  |

Get both. Life is too short to agonize over these things. If you only buy one, you may have some regret later. Never heard of anyone regretting buying both.

RPKs are cool but you are limited to shooting prone or from a bench, effectively anyways |

Then they disappeared for a couple years, reappeared built on surplus parts (I got mine in that era) similar to the WASR-10/63, then disappeared again, then briefly reappeared being built on "paratrooper" parts with wire folders and adjustable bipods, disappeared AGAIN, and now appear to be coming in as 100% new production guns. |

Sold mine to help fund nods. Got it when they were cheaper than a wasr.
An frt/binary trigger would make one much more appealing. |

Delighted with my 7sf, but note the very Nato length butt with no likely options to shorten to Warsaw.
For RPK beefy bbl and fine accuracy, I vote VEPR. My K looks a bit odd with the Robarm furniture but it works great. It's a solid 8.5+ lbs and the Harris bipod with podlock is a nice combo. |

Ended up getting the SAM7SF in plum. But I got the deployment kit one or whatever it is that comes with the metal hard case, extra mags, scope mount, etc. Looking forward to it.

I am waiting on a tax stamp for a Flow 556k, and I'm going to have the flash hider changed to a HUXWRX FH. I think that should work out quite well. |
