I was considering shortening the barrell on my Egyptian Maadi MISR S/A... Anyone been this route?.... Pic's & info...results...reccomedations...???... ...  ...waddaya-think...?...

As long as you stay within the legal length, sure. I know from another thread you are worried about the threading of a turned down barrel, but i did mine today without issue. For yours, you'd have to get it cut, crowned, threaded and the FSB moved back and re-pinned. I'm still going to recommend just threading what you have, but it's your rifle and your money.

Yep...thats pretty much what I had decided on after checking around and surfin' some boards.... You'd think "somebody" would offer a modified barrel around 14"-14.5"...I'd bet that would sell like a mutha...  ...But wadda I know???...  ...Thanks for playin' along.........back to my shopping list...  ...- |

So....kept looking around & reading & talking to a few firearms enthusiasts about my barrel.... I'm trying to decide between the Bolton Gas Block and maybe the Krebs version... ...So I was rerading the book, owners manual, operating guide....whatever ya want to call it...and it has the barrel listed as 17-inches... I checked the ATF National Firearms Act Handbook website to check about the "official" barrel measuring process....and found this; "2.1.3 Rifle. A rifle is a firearm designed to be fired from the shoulder and designed to use the energy of an explosive in a fixed cartridge to fire only a single projectile through a rifled barrel for each single pull of the trigger. A rifle subject to the NFA has a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length. The ATF procedure for measuring barrel length is to measure from the closed bolt (or breech-face) to the furthermost end of the barrel or permanently attached muzzle device. Permanent methods of attachment include full-fusion gas or electric steel-seam welding, high-temperature (1100°F) silver soldering, or blind pinning with the pin head welded over. Barrels are measured by inserting a dowel rod into the barrel until the rod stops against the bolt or breech-face. The rod is then marked at the furthermost end of the barrel or permanently attached muzzle device, withdrawn from the barrel, and measured." ...So I RE-measured the barrel on the Maadi by dropping stick down the barrel until it stopped & marked the stick at the end of the barrel......and.........it measured 16.5-inches! I don't know if this is a "normal" situation ?....I thought these were manufactured with 16 or 17-inch barrels... Anyway...good news for me....I guess....I can clean-up the end of the barrel and move forward with the gas block/front sight part of this project.....  ..."A rifle subject to the NFA has a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length."Does this statement mean anything under 16-inches is the SBR thing?......not really sure how to interpret this... - |
