Arsenal hasn't always been very consistent with their milled AK rifles, especially naming them. I wouldn't jump and say these are the same ones brought in during 2001. I've heard that the ban era ones had single stacks, like you said, but the later ones came in with double stacks. These new SLR-101's looks like a different animal from the ban rifles. Brought in single stack or double stack, it's opened up by the same company so I wouldn't worry about it too much. |

Yes you are correct, I was referring to the 101's. The 101's were sold in both configurations. |
| Received mine today. Everything looks solid and well-made. The receiver is milled nicely. Trigger is a double stage. The muzzle brake is really tight, so hopefully I'll be getting that off soon. My only concern is the front sight post. It's really high so I'm going to see how it shoots. A more in-depth report later. |

As requested, here are photos I took today of the SLR-101.
The 30rd mag is not included with the rifle. 
Here's what comes with the rifle. Oil bottle, 10rd magazine, buttstock cleaning kit, sling. 
Now some details and markings. I did some research on Bulgarian date codes, but was unable to find good info. 
Buttstock has the trap door for the cleaning kit:

New Bulgarian Muzzle Brake: 
With muzzle brake removed. Note the threads: 
"S" and "F" on the right side selector markings: 
Comes with a nifty charging handle protector. Much better than the Russian red slip-on protectors: 
Chrome-lined barrel and chamber. 
Chrome-lined gas block. 
Inside details of the receiver. Note the nice machining and the lower tang. 
Nicely machined mag well. Has a little bit of inconsistency closer to the trigger guard, but is hardly noticeable. 
With magazine inserted. No wobble at all. 
Larger spring loaded bolt, and carrier. 
Bolt head detail. 
Some extra details: The finish on the rifle is the typical black paint, which has been applied very evenly. The top cover is the heavy smooth type. Buttstock is Warsaw length. The only downsides I could see right now are the tightness of the gas tube release lever, and the high front sight post from the factory. The high front sight post may become annoying when shooting. I have yet to take it out, so I will report then when I have the chance. Some final thoughts: This is an excellent value for a milled AK. Machining is sharp, as well as fit and finish (except the gas tube lever). I currently own several milled AK's and this is an excellent model. Not quite as well put together as my SLR-95's, but comparable to the current SA-M7 rifles built by Arsenal LV for a lower price. If you have the chance, snatch one up! |
