Ya know...the usual...for some reason I'm startin' to like the "look" of all the "black guns" I've been runnin' across lately! Some of you guy's have gone this route I'm sure....any pictures of modifications? Reccomendations?... Stocks, hand guards, rails, optics, flash-hiders or brakes?....how did ya do it?.... THEN...I'll decide what to do with the barrell-end situation...I really don't want to replace the barrell on this gun...it's in great shape...purchase included a Krinkov "cone" brake/flash hider stamped "MADE IN USA"... OH YA...what did youse use to refinish the steel parts with...not real crazy about the finish either... This is gonna be sort of a birthday gift to ME...from ME...just need direction from the experts... Switchin' hobbies...just got rid of a '56 Ford F100 project & selling off Hot Rod parts and equipment and I'm gettin' bored... THANKS!... - |
| Good gun. I'd recommend keeping it as close to stock as possible. Sadly, the bbl has been turned down too much for running the std 14x1LH threads. You can thread it for a smaller inner diameter muzzle device if that's your thing. Other than that, I'd prob just throw a Tapco G2 in it since it's an easy improvement for not much $$$ |
| You have to thread it with a 1/2x28 die. Then get one of these http://www.cncwarrior.com/shop/22766-ak47-12-28-slant-brake/ The date of manufacture will be on the front trunion, i think it is the last 4 digits. The Egyptian rifles are known to have a terrible spray painted finish. That's the norm. Research trigger slap and you can find the area you need to file down that usually fixes the issue. Bummer about the barrell...thanks for the info... I have that trigger mod on my "list"... Are there any "issues" with replacing the barrell with a new one?...just a thought. I've read good & bad about this procedure on this peticuilar item...  ...does not seem tobe cost prohibitive but some info warns about major issuses with this route! | well, i'd look in to the CAA aluminum tube and stock, or some other commercial size stock if you don't like that one. I have a set sitting in a box waiting on a rifle and a tube already mounted on another. Rock solid. There is another people recommend but i can't remember the name (found it VLTOR). The Tapco are nicknamed crapco and i've personally owned a polymer ATI... nu uh,, not gonna do it. And i was mistaken about the manufacture year being the last 4, that's on a SAR. I believe it is the last two digit on a MAADI. There is also nothing wrong with threading that barrel if it has a large enough diameter. You can get everything you need at that link i provided. Handle, die, tat, oil, pin, spring and muzzle device. Part of the reason people like that rifle is the authentic military barrel. Putting another on it would seem like a waste and an unneeded expense. |

Well...if the last 2 of the serial # are the MFG/import date then that would make mine a '77... That seems sort of odd considering the date of the whole import "ban" crap...dosen't it? I dunno...I'm just tryin' to figure this out as I go...I really appreciate all your help tho... THANKS for the heads-up on the Tapco stuff...that's not the first time I've heard that!. That's OK tho...I really was likin' the ATI set better anyway...just wish the front hand guard was longer! I'll keep ya posted on when parts start showing up! Having a rough time finding anything in-stock with-in driving distance!... - |

Enjoy your new rifle. I picked up one identical to it Wednesday. Mine is staying pretty stock except for a screw on QD socket and red dot mount that replaces the rear sight from Midwest Industries, a flash hider from CNC Warrior, a US Palm pistol grip and a Blue Force Gear VCAS sling.
ATI and Tapco are both cheesy purveyors of plastic crap that breaks easily and frequently. They sell it by the ton to the "It looks cool and it's cheap" demographic. Please, don't put that junk on your rifle. If you want a M4 style stock that does not fold look at CAA or VLTOR. They both get good reviews. If you want a folding M4 style stock go to cncwarrior.com and look at the one he sells. It's much much nicer and less expensive than the setup ACE sells. The hinge ACE makes is shitty soft aluminum and does not hold up. They're overpriced and hard to get too. I'm telling you that as an owner of an ACE folder who replaced the broken ACE hinge with one from CNC Warrior. If you just want a bolt on folder go to solartactical.com and get one of their Polish Beryl folding stocks. It's not cheap but it'll look authentic and be pretty sturdy. The only AK aftermarket grip I like and use is the US Palm one. I've tried a bunch of others but it's one of the best made and the most comfortable to me. Don't waste your money on one of those AR grip adapters if you actually intend to run the gun hard. They break to easily. Ask me how I know. |
