I figured I would post this here on the SKS side. I have a small stash of 7.62x39 that is known corrosive, and some more that could be. I have kept it set aside for a while but will probably try to use it up this summer. I recently got a BCA ar15 bolt action upper in 7.62x39 and am considering using it for the corrosive ammo instead of subjecting my SKS to it. Regardless of what I shoot I always tend to overclean all of my stuff. In the case of corrosive ammo, I will just give whatever I use a garden hose dish soap bath then let it dry and do a regular CLP cleaning. I am thinking the AR15 build will be easier to clean and dry out. With current prices who would have thought that the AR would be the cheaper gun?  Known corrosive is Chinese stuff (not pictured.) Questionable ammo (and I care about my guns too much to not treat it as corrosive.) Labels say: ----- Centerfire Ammunition Non-Corrosive Cal 7.62x39 HP LCB 123 Gr. I would shoot it in either, as long as you are doing the garden hose. I usually just heat up 2 cups of water in the microwave and pour that down the barrel. If it’s not a Yugo SKS it might be more durable as it should be chrome lined. |

Bolt action will be easier to clean. I'd just do a fun steel plinking range session, burn it up. clean the BBL good. It's not a big deal if decide SKS, just pull it apart and run BBL and gas system and reciever, then clean. I shot plenty of corossive AK ammo in the day, not a big deal if clean Whole army's have run that way. |
