My pleasure Kaos

While not necessarily "bulk" ammunition storage, I thought you guys might like to see the Grab-N-Go boxes I have put together for various pistols and ARs. The idea is to have a small, portable container with the basics. I keep an Otis kit and basic spare parts elsewhere.

This is a Grab-N-Go kit for a USP45:

The Pelican 1150 case contains:
-Three 12rd magazines
-138 rounds of 230gr Winchester Ranger
-Four Surefire batteries
-Spare set of ear plugs
-Spare bulb assembly for taclight

The same size Pelican 1150 case will also carry six 30rd PMags:

Eight years ago I moved from one home to another.  Today, I started an inventory of what was "under" the house.  In over 6 hours I still don't know what's in all the cans...and there are about 40 of them.  .50 caliber and .30 caliber cans have worked their magic over the years.  I found 2 cases of .45, a bunch of 7.62 and 5.56 and over 15,000 primers I had in storage.  Even found 5,000 RWS pellets for my air pistol and about 10,000 rounds of .22LR.

Labeling is now the order of business.  I like the idea of using hang tags with a computer label.  But I'll put one inside and hang one outside as well.  My "basement" is basically a storage room under the house with a concrete floor and lots of storage space.  Since 2002 we've had rain (San Diego's version) that really hasn't affected the cans at all.  A little rust under a few of the cans but only surface rust.  I worry more about the black widows than the moisture.  The smell from the cans was as good as they day they went into storage.  I agree that plastic may not be the best way to go due to the still-low prices ammo cans can be had for.

I'm going to start reloading again starting with 5.56, so I hope all those small rifle primers still go bang!

Hopefully the primers should be fine, and if they were in the cans they should be. The 'original ' price compared to the 'current' one will be enough to make your stomach do afew flips though. I can attest to 'mystery cans' as well. My daughter moved back home and my workshop/reloading bench/storage area became a 'overflow' dump/storage area until recently. I found about 9 bricks of 22lr stored in .30 caliber cans. One thing I have been using for my empty brass that is cheap (free actually) is the plastic coffee cans that Flogers and Maxwell House use. I load primarily .38 spl and .45 so I use the short cans for .38's and the tall ones for .45's. An index card in the top tells the status (tumbled, times fired, headstamp and if there is a variation. We have a coffee fund at my office and the guy in charge saves me the empties. You can store a LOT of brass in one tall can.

What does the VCI plastic do for the steel cased ammo, if it is in a can with desi packs?
