My first AR was a 20” A2 Olympic HBAR that I sent off to Kurt’s Kustom Firearms to have a fake flash hider installed on.

Gun ran great but dang it was heavy.

Only thing from that era I regret letting go was a 14.5” pinned and welded to 16” Bushmaster Izzy.

Every time I fondled a 20" HBAR, I was like, no way do I want that gun.  I was spoiled with my govt' barrel.  It was not the norm for that era......  But mine was made in 94.

Yeah, that actually happens a lot more than people realize.  Some recent examples for instance, salt bath nitriding being "just as good as" or even "better" than hard chrome (because it's a much cheaper and easier).  Guns being sold without sights or even a FSB to be "optics ready".  And having cheap rails put on them instead of traditional M4 style handguards with associate hardware.

If you like that P/W setup....shop Gunpartscorp.  14.5 B MP pinned Izzy. Cheap.

I've bought 2, both CLd. Several here have bought them as well, IIRC 90 % received CLd bbls.

One caveot, check the fsb immediately. A few of us received canted bases. There was a thread in the A2 forum for quite some time.

Why are they advertised as non CL?  Is that so if you get a non CL one, you can't return it since it was correctly advertised?

Cannot answer that.  I assume that it was a bulk purchase from BM when they closed the doors and it is a mixed batch or some were never CLd due to shut down.

But I am speculating at best.

Eta: I do know for certain that at least 18 of us received CLd.

I got chrome lined as well.

FYI if you want to swap out the Izzy flash hider it's pinned both top and bottom and was a real pain to get off. I pin/welded an extended A2 FH on mine, not sure it was worth the effort.

I remember the first gov profile I felt.  I nearly cried tears of joy.

I had handled a couple of SP1’s before of course, but having an HBAR then feeling a Gov profile was like night and day.  Felt 6 pounds lighter haha.

And yet we still have people arguing that 20" HBAR's are the superior way to go for a chromed barrel shooting ball ammo.

I had to go well out of my way to get a gov't profile for my first AR.

Inspired by this thread I am building the typical late 90s early 2000s SWAT M4

Got the Surefire forearm off the EE, stuck it on a M4 with a pinned and welded 14.5 barrel.  Now I need an optic, thinking Trijicon RX01 with the big triangle or something very 90s.

You know what optic I thought was cool that you didn't see a ton of back then but never see one now?  The TriPower......  I remember thinking I'd dig the chevron over an aimpoint blob.....

They don't still make them, do they?

This thread makes me sad. This is still the stuff I have - Tangodown VFGs, Command Arms plastic rails that screw on M4 handguards, YHM and GG&G BUISs, DPMS Glacier Guards that weigh like 5x as much as normal M4 guards, etc..

Nothing wrong with a Tango Down VFG (once you get it mounted).
I run a couple GG&G MADs today on SWAT carbines. They're excellent.

ACOGs are designed to mount to a carry handle, the little ACOGs don't come with a mount, so sometimes, shit happens.
