[ARCHIVED THREAD] - MASADA (Page 3 of 51)
|
Rich, By the prototype, it looks as if there will not be a MIAD Style grip, having interchangeable backstraps. I think people in general will want that. It looks awesome as it is and personally I don't care about different backstraps. I'm sure your team has already thought of it, but I wanted to throw it out there anyways. Regards, Nathan |
Rich, Does the Masada design have any form of initial extraction (the lack of which is one of the primary drawbacks of the AR-15 platform)? Justin |
I believe from all of the available info that the upper receiver of the Masada is aluminum not plastic, therefore not comparable in regards of the melting issues experienced by the HK G36. |
|
I'm with you BushmasterGuy77, I think the rifle looks awesome 'as is', and I really like the grip/lower receiver being one-piece (like the HK navy style lowers). Some people will want a backstrap option similar to the MIAD, and opinions will vary - but I tend to use the 'medium' backstrap on my MIADs anyway, which looks similar to the Masada Grip. |
Thank you for pointing out what I thought was obvious. Dave_A, I'm not going to address you any further in this thread. If you feel the need to continue, start another topic if you wish. Magpul, thanks for bringing us the MASADA. I'm looking forward to when I can pick one up myself. |
Why don't you post a cite for this information? If you can't, then shut up and stop posting BS. |
Yep, it's definitely aluminum. IIRC Rich said it was a 7000 series aluminum when I heard him talking about it at SHOT. The handguard is plastic though, at least the bottom portion of it is. Not sure how that will hold up to heat, but I'm sure that Magpul will do some testing. |
Your attempts at logic and reason are futile. I confronted the esteemed poster about it twice already and have yet to see a response. |
|
I don't purport to be as knowledgable as many of the more established posters on this forum, but I don't understand why the Masada will be superior(term used loosely) to the M16. Lighter? Great. Piston-operated? Wonderful. Caliber interchangability? Whoopdeedoo. Once again, my experience is limited. I don't run my carbines half as hard as some folks here. That said; I've never had a major issue with the DI system, I've never felt the need for a folding stock, and while the ability to swap mags and barrels to fire a different caliber is a cool idea I don't think it's all that practical. Kudos to Magpul for getting their entry out there, but this won't be the next M16. |
I would say the biggest thing is the hardened steel carrier rides on hardened steel rails with a lot more bearing surface than an AR15 carrier. This with the piston system should prove to be a robust operating group as the AR180 showed. Adding a piston drive to an AR15 only fixes half the problem. The other thing would be AMBI everything and only needing two hands to lock the bolt back. |
Yes but it doesn't address the other half of the problem: initial extraction. |
|
May as well put my order in the same time as yours. I'll even help you print out your trust. I want it. I know I have to be patient, but I'm not very good at that. My only hope is that a large part of the Eastern Seaboard falls into the Atlantic so that I will be busy for the next 12 months or so until it is out. |
And since we cant have SBR's in WA, I guess some sucking up to get some shipped as Pistols, with some end cap on them would be the answer for a lot of us. 11.5" Masada Pistol. ![]() And then convert it over to a rifle! ![]() Now Rich, please log off the Internet, call your employees all to work, weld the door shut from the inside and dont come out until you guys are done. A lot of people are waiting to order this! |
+1 The pattern is remarkably consistent. Post swill, fervently label it as fact, & ignore true, fact-based responses posted by those actually involved in the particular programs/projects &/or who work in the companies who make said products in question. Wash, rinse, repeat. Some originality of thought or insight would be a nice change of pace, just once there, David. |
|
Magpul- Can you give us some more details in terms of projected availability, price, other options not on the pdf, pistol option (for those of us in WA and other states who cant have SBR's), MAID grip backstraps (on the Masada), vertical grip sneek peeks and anything else you have in store for us? Maybe you could put a "projects in process" section on your site with updates (lowers, vertical grip, Masada, UBR, CTR cheek/ battery compartment) when benchmarks are met. Is there anything we can do to speed up the release of the MASADA? Like the rest of your loyal customers, I have cash in hand waiting for the release of the MASADA, lowers, UBR, ect. The quicker you get these products out, the quicker you'll have my money in you'r pocket! Congratulations on another well designed product! |
|
Can the Masada handle any AR barrel profile (Govt/Pencil, Midweight, HBAR, Varmint)? Any 100-rd Beta-C mag tests done? Future Requests: 1 6.8 SPC. 2 45ACP, 10mm, 40 S&W 3 20GA shotgun 4 Fixed hollow buttstock with door for cleaning kit, etc. 5 Ambi Thumb-hole stock. Thanks, Chris |

Okay, this is something that we planned on doing. Now that we have a Magpul forum back up I'll be working on this. By the end of next week plan on seeing some new tacked threads on our latest stuff to keep everyone updated. As far as what the ARFcom population can do to speed up the production of the Masada.......sit tight. Magpul has a very good reputation of keeping the people in the know and I intend to keep it this way. Please do not call the us to get updated info, try and use the tacked threads to get the info you desire. Give me a week to gather myself from SHOT and you'll see the tacked threads. Drake

Assume this forum is located on Magpuls website. Didn't find anything under Industry section here. |

Good to see you again Zak, feel free to post the pics you took.
|
Ok ok..I'm blind...sue me. |
I'll give you 20 bucks if you get it to me tomorrow.![]() Seriously, this rifle and it's announcement really made my day when it was announced at SHOT show. My appreciation for Magpul and it's wares increased ten fold. As soon as I can get on a waiting list ANYWHERE, I will be in for one in black with a 16in barrel. |
Are you well off financially???? (just want to make sure its worth my time) |
|
Why tease us and make us wait a whole year to 18 months? We want this exciting weapon now! (I feel like my 5 1/2 year old son who sees a new toy on a commercial and cant wait to get his hands on it). Seriously, why does it take so long to bring a product like this to market? I am just trying to get an idea of the timelines. The car companies frustrate the consumers enough with all their cool concept cars that never, ever hit the showroom floors, and the ones that do take 3-4 years to reach production. I would think that if a product like this showed such demand in the initial stages, you would want to get it out as fast as possible before the buzz died down (or the Dems kill any chance of it reaching the market). I think they have an incredible (from at least a looks and functionality standpoint) product and wouldnt change a thing (unlike the Sig 556 which I saw at '06 SHOT. Initially I got excited about it but then the more I looked at it and compared it to the original 55X series, I couldnt see spending that kind of coin on a rifle Sig had every opportunity to change to meet the demands and suggestions of those who had initial interest in the rifle.) Anyway, here's hoping that the fine gents at Magpul follow through with this project sooner rather than later. BTW - where's that PRS for the G3 that I wanted to T&E?
|
Ditto what Zak said. I feel safe in saying that Magpul will get this out just as soon as is physically possible. However, I know they arent going to do that until its right. Have to also take into consideration the time it takes for all the neccessary ATF approvals, procuring the materials, machinery, molds, etc. That doesnt all come overnight. I'd rather wait a few months and know that a quality product is on the way, than to rush it out too early and have problems. |
Polymer is almost always molded in its color. It doesnt take well long term wise to painting. As such, the Masada is molded in its colors with the aluminum upper being coated to match. |
