Looks like can not hold out much longer and "NEED" to get a MRP upper - however - the question is Rifle or Carbine length? Since all the small hole lowers currently in the house are NFA, can use use the 10.5 inch or 14.5 inch barrel (getting bad, had to borrow a friends AR lower to go out of state - but since "traded" and AUG for it, he did not mind ;-). The 14.5 works nicely in the rifle upper, with similar setup as the extended KAC rail system. Thus the question is two fold, any accuracy advantage of either system and does one trade the 10.5 inch for the option of a 18 inch upper? Appreicate ideas, photos, etc. And getting two MRP uppers is not an option, as have another tax stamp that is trying to follow me home. |

I'M NOT SURE I UNDERSTAND THE ENTIRE QUESTION, BUT I'LL TRY TO ANSWER AS BEST I CAN: WITH THE CQB MRP, YOU CAN USE ANY BARREL LENGTH, 10.5" TO 18". WITH THE RIFLE LENGTH MRP, YOU ARE LIMITED TO 14.5" TO 18". UNSURE OF THE INTENT ON THE ACCURACY QUESTION ... WES GRANT MSTN.BIZ |
Since I'm sure you have nothing better to do  and have all those MRPs and barrels sitting around, it would be interesting to see a side-by-side picture of all the various length barrels in a CQB and rifle length upper! Spooky |
Had not realized that with the CQB MRP that I could use the 18" barrel (I will have to check the thread for a photo of the CQB MRP with a 18 inch barrel and bipod ). My question on accuracy was to check if the rifle upper was more accurate, however, just realized with a free floating barrel, there is probably no difference in accuaracy. Thus the advantage of the rifle upper is more rail space and getting the rail farther foward on the 18 inch barrel, for use with a bipod. Thanks! |
I don't use bipods but do have lots of crap piled on (front sight, sling attachment, flash light, IR laser/illuminator, a 2nd flash light  ) so I went with the rifle length MRP.Now only if LMT would lighten the barrels.... My MRP went through a weight loss program. Troy BattleSights replaced by slightly lighter KAC front and 300M rear sights, all batteries removed from the storage space in the TD foregrip, Magpul pistol grip, and LMT SOPMOD stock, alas it's still heavy

hi i would like to ask MSTN dealer what length barrel and rail do you have on the mrp you had posted earlier. I'm new to this forum and am still learning a lot about the M4. I plan to buy a lower and buid it from there so currently i'm trying to learn as much as i can on complete uppers or uppers in general. thanks |
Watch out for the laws in your state (CA). Most of the stuff in the MRP thread can get you in trouble with the law... Spooky |

HERE WE ARE, BACK IN 2003, WITH THE FIRST COMMERCAILLY RELEASED MRP, AND 18" VERSION IN RIFLE LENGTH FORMAT: WE'VE NEVER TAKEN A PIC THAT I CAN FIND OF A CARBINE LENGTH MRP WITH AN 18" BARREL. WE'VE ONLY SOLD A FEW CONFIGURED LIKE THAT. THE RIFLE LENGTH SEEMS MORE APPROPRIATE, ESTHETICALLY, I SUPPOSE, WITH THE 18" TUBE. WES GRANT MSTN.BIZ |

It's one of our friends Photoshop jobs of course, but I do hope to try to test the practicality of the Aimpoint M3, PVS-14, with the 3X magnifier/Flip Mount. |

Edwin, I think you might come to the same conclusion I did: I could, but wouldn't and in the end, didn't. The beloved continuous rail of the MRP allows us the flexibility to do it, while combining so many optics on it may be a solution and certainly is multi-talented, it creates problems of its own: weight, complexity. So I just got the solution meant to address this specific want (to see targets way out there): a 4X NV scope

I have to agree with Duffy on this one...We're fortunate though to have the luxury of saving our pennies to have a dedicated mission specific setups. I actually go one step further and have DEDICATED mid-range and long range setups for BOTH day and night! My CQB package is the only one I remove and add optics. Now...If I can just save a few more for that new 6.8 LMT on the radar scope.....Until then, I have to suffer and look at all the other FINE setups out there and here!  |
I hear a 6.8 WILL be at the shot show. The slow-down WAS or IS still 6.8 ammo from Hornady to LMT. They have to have a certain quantity on-hand for QA purposes. Hope this helps. Vic |
It works with the cover in place. It will not swing all the way to "constant on" with or without the cover, but momentary works just fine. |
Excuses, excuses. The real reason for the lack of 6.8 ammo is that the round is dead. |

Sorry sir, You are wrong. The truth is that the barrels have been made, but they have not been released due to the lack of available 6.8 ammo over the past year for testing the barrels. (LMT requires 200,000rds for testing) There are several companies now producing 6.8 ammo, and thus the barrels will be released soon after Shot '06. Im sure the same bs was said about the .222 Remington Special (.223) when it was first introduced. |
Hmmmm...I really dont care what SOCOM does, as long as we keep killin' the bad guys. All I know is that I will soon have a 6.8 barrel for my MRP to go along with my 6.8 SPR and my stash of 6.8 ammo. |
