| Thanks I've been working on getting this right,without a bunch of new fangled fluff.Some designs quite worthy.Many are not.Just like computers,biggest,fastest,most cool.All things considererd.My rule of thumb is K.I.S.S.Fads and coolness levels aside.I'am all for progression and R+d.But if it works pretty well.Why tamper with proven systems,before thier R+d.More time on basic marsmanship,practice and ammo.I.M.H.O. Thanks.This site is a God send.I hope more shooters use it as a referal point,for knowledge. |

Well put JRQ1957! I was going to buy sling mounts and a 3 point, for two long guns until I saw this. Probaly saved myself several hundred rounds of ammo cost here. BTW anybody too lazy to build one of these... SEND $20 TO ggllggll AND HAVE HIM MAKE YOU ONE! Even at that price (shipped!) its a F****** STEAL!

Well I made a sling! Its not as nice as some of the others I've seen but not bad for a guy of little talent. I work for a company that distributes motorcycle parts. We got a bunch of life jackets in (for jet skis) that did'nt have a Coast Guard label. They were gonna destroy them for liablility concerns but I cut off all the fastex type buckles just in case I needed them. I also found a small HK type hook in my box of stuff. Anyway it works. I'll try and tweak it some. Thanks for all the good tips. I have alot of fun here. John |

| just finished mine, with the o.d. poly from strapworks...the backpack carry is the stuff! now I can wade thru bushes and climb steep hills and not have a rifle sliding down off my shoulder all the time...thanks for the instructions! i wonder how many sets of webbing strapworks has sold for these projects... |
I used one single and one double, because the one buckle only needs a single adjust. That's not to say it wouldn't work with two double's. ETA: My 15-inch, 1-inch wide straps are not staying tight. I got lightweight poly. Opt for the heavy or something else. The heavyweight poly for the main part of the sling works great. Thanks again for the great idea! |

I ordered a bunch of stuff from Strapworks for my DIY MOLLE project as well as the Tac Sling for my AR-15. I also chose Polypropylene becuase it would stretch less when wet. Sweating and moisture can cause the nylon stuff to stretch and come loose. I bought Heavyweight and Lightweight just in case. I wanted to use the lightweight stuff for the MOLLE straps anyhow. My AR-15 has a Harris bipod mounted on the lower handguard (standard A2), what is a good spot for attaching the front end of the sling mount? I was thinking perhaps just wrapping it around the front sight tower? |
That should work, carefull not to let it melt to the barrel though, Try comming up with something to mount the sling under the bi-pod.

I had the same probelem with an AR that had a bipod. Your right the sling things are expensive, but since the Harris does have that tang' that allows you to attach one of the quick connect style sling loops, the ones that have the flush fitting nut on the bottom, that's the way I went. Go to a sporting goods store and look for the little green and yellow baggies that have all the parts nessisary to put a sling on different guns. I found a sling kit for a moss. 500 for 6 dollars. It came with two of those sling things and a bunch of hardware, plenty to fix the probelem I had in the first place, and much cheaper than buying the parts seperate.

So even with a QD swivel for the Harris bipod lug/stub, I still have to make the "T" thing for the rear stock (I Have an A2 buttstock) in order for it to carry/drop correctly? I have a Vepr which has 2 QD studs but if I am reading everyone's responses right, using the stock sling mounts would cause the rifle to drop/fall upside down. Will it be fine to use the QD swivel just for the front and to make the "T" for the rear? Thanks again Matt! |

If you use the QD swivel on the front and the factory sling mount on the rear, it will lay upside down. Not a big probelem, but when you start mixing the two, one mount on the side, one on the bottom, thats where it starts causing probelems. Try this, Make the "T" like you would for the rear, and then make two loops, laso them together and leave a 1.5" slide stop hang on the outside to attach to the main sling web. Use the bipod to hold it tight against the handguards, I'm positive this will hold. Give it a try...  Yes I just made this picture, dont make fun! Matt |

Matt: That pic makes a lot of sense! Would it be better to have that loop around the handguard be placed further up towards the muzzle (pass the Harris QD mount) so when in the drop mode, the sling loop doesn't move towards the receiver? On the Vepr (AK design) the loop would be wrapped around the gas tube which isn't a good idea. I think I'll have to look into something else for the Vepr. |

Yea your right about the sling falling back toward the reciever, I didnt think of that. As for the AK...Mine has a hitch pin looking attachment bent around the front sight base, it was there when I bought it and it works well for the sling. So unless you can come up with somthing like that for yours, I'm not sure what to tell you about that. |

I guess I was wrong about that being attached to the FSB. Its attached to the gas tube spout or whatever you call that. Looks like its supposed to be there, but maybe you could make somthing simmilar. Here's also a picture of a members sako that he put one of my slings on. I'm not sure how he got it to the front but looks like it could be similar. Matt

Those are factory mounted  and even if I did swap em over to the Vepr, the handguards are totally different. I guess I'll check with the dark side.BTW here's what I was talking about earlier:  That is spunk's setup. If I get a sling swivel for the Harris lug, I could just do that and it'd save me the hassle of rigging up something in the front that would just end up slipping around. You mentioned that this can cause problems... any ideas? I could then also do the same on my Vepr because that has a Harris bipod as well. Call me a boyscout but i like to be prepared when i grab a rifle (Bipod on each in case I need a mucho steady support in the prone position). |
