After a subliminal message from a FB buddy a while back, I began building a Travis Haley Blackwater "Iraq" Bushmaster clone. Here it is.

Rifle:
Bushmaster XM-15E2S HBAR A3 Target (Windham, ME)

Accessories:
Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 3.5-10x40mm (30mm) M1 Illum. Mil Dot (in lieu of the no longer made Mark 4 LR/T 3-9x40)
A.R.M.S.® #22™ Throw Lever® Rings (High) NSN 5365-01-562-0979
A.R.M.S.® #32™ Throw Lever® Adapter for Harris-type Bi-pod NSN 1005-01-574-2195
A.R.M.S.® #40™Std. A2 Flip Up Rear Sight
A.R.M.S.® #59™M S.I.R.® System NSN 1005-01-574-2540
Harris Bipod 6-9 Inch Notched Legs - Swivel (BRM-S)
S-Lock for Harris "S" Series bipod
AN/PEQ-2 battery box (airsoft)

I tried the #22 Medium rings as was spec'd, but they were to low to work with the AN/PEQ-2 battery box (yes, airsoft) and have enough clearance for the rear sight.

The inspiration

Very cool build! Where did you find the ARMs rail? I'd love to find one for a carbine.

Man you did an excellent job. What's this, AR number 87 in the stable?

Everything looks spot on to me. Did Travis use the A2 stock or A1? The one in the animation picture kind of looks like it's length is In between A1 and A2 lol. And I only remember what the gun looked like from receivers forward from the rooftop "Turkey Shoot" vid.

Excellent job!

A.R.M.S. Inc.

Here is the civilian version for a flat-top carbine.

This is the military version for a flat-top carbine.

There is also a military version for a mid-length.

I have gone through a lot of builds over the years. Traded some. Sold some. I had to sell one of my nicest ones to afford this project. I am now at 40 complete ARs with three upper and lower receivers in the wings waiting to become something. On Travis' rifle, he used an A2 buttstock as that is what the Bushmaster came with. The illustration does not really reflect that all that well. Photos of the actual rifle do.

Another masterpiece

Man, when you croak, your family is going to have a field day

ETA: I haven't seen a family pic of the rifles in a while.  Can you even fit them in one frame from 20 feet?

The AR family is much larger than the one I had a few years ago. It is much harder to get 41 ARs in one pic these days.

What kind of accuracy can you expect out of the gun? How does the barrel stack up to some of the big names?

I am not sure at this point. I will find out next Wednesday when I get it to the range. I am going to try M193, M855, and some 77 gr. OTM through it. I am curious as to how the 1/9 twist will perform with 77 gr. ammo.

Would really like to see those results.  My guess is they will stabilize at 100.  I could be wrong though.  You are a blessed man indeed.  That's going to be a fun rifle to shoot.  I would imagine.  I'm not sure if I'm missing it or if you didn't say....  What trigger do you have in there?

I don't think 1/9 would negatively effect 77gr until quite a ways out there, if at all. I've found those twist rate to bullet grain charts to be quite exaggerated. I've never owned a Bushy barrel but if its well made I would expect quite good accuracy with that setup.

It's too bad Travis isn't here to let us know, but he killed quite a few shit bags with that gun. Not sure  what round he was using, but it had to be one of the popular few choices

This is definitely not something to take to the bank.  And I may be all wet.  But I'm pretty sure I was around when he posted on here.  And for some reason I'm thinking he had 75 grain match ammo.  Black Hills.  But again,  I might be dreaming all of that.

Lol I know what you mean. After reading so many threads over so much time, a lot of info tends to get mixed up and mish-mashed in my head too. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the round he used tho. As a contractor he had choices for round I'm sure. Plus Black Hills is king for 5.56 precision 2 legged critter hunting

Factory Bushmaster mil-spec type trigger. Haley did not use anything different.

ETA: I just saw a video a little while ago with Travis Haley taking about the rifle he used in Najaf. He did mention that it had a Match trigger, but did not say which one. I suspect that it may have been either a LMT, KAC, or even RRA considering the time frame (2004).

What’s that video?
I’ve never seen it, is it a reenactment or what?

You guys suck for back story, assuming we know what’s going on.

I've got a 16" 1/9 E.R. Shaw BBL AR and @ 100yds. I can hold my groups under 1" with B/H 77gr. TMK's with no "key holing". At 300yds. I can ring a 8" plate, if I'm on my game using a 1x6x24 scope. Have not attempted to bulls eye shoot it at 200/300yds. on paper yet, have to wait until the snow melts. I don't think it's going to be that much of a problem to achieve decent accuracy. 10RING

Nice build OP!
Im building something similar (Centurion c4 instead & ADM scope mount ) to give a new life to my old Colt Hbar.

As for the ammo.. try some 69g if you can. Both my 1/7 & 1/9 barrels love it.
