I could use some help from one of you guys that has CAD software. I need to plot the toolpath in one degree increments to cut the slot in the boxcam for this project. The slot starts at TDC and .925 from one end of the cam. The slot continues around the cam at the .925 position until 36 degrees, then I need to cut it diagonally to 2.100 inches from the end until it reaches the 162 degree mark in rotation. From there it remains at 2.100 until 210 degrees, then cuts back diagonally to the .925 position at 342 degrees. I hope this makes sense.
Can anyone help me out?

Picture a tube with a diagonal slot cutting it in half.

Now if you could just power the Gatling gun with the Steam engine - a Steampunk's wet dream! Great work BTW - I know I've said it before, but having seen your work close up I'm in awe of your skills.

I just bought my first lathe and I have to say this thread is an inspiration to me. I'm still learning how to do basic operations like facing and turning so I can only hope some day I have this type of skill. Keep up the good work and keep posting pics!

Cool, what lathe did you get? What kind of projects are you planning on using it for? Mine is just a little Atlas/Craftsman that has seen better days, I want to get something larger at some point.

Just one of the cheap Asian mini lathes. I also eventually want to get something bigger and nicer, but I have very limited space right now and it works ok for a beginner. I'm planing on some various small parts like flash suppressors, etc, and when I get better at it I have a couple of Form 1's pending with the ATF for two suppressors. I know I could buy a better can for cheaper, but I'm doing this for a learning experience.

Well, I started putting together some of the sub-assemblies. The plans call for these to be silver soldered, but I'm going with bolts and Loc-Tite at least until I know everything fits and functions right. My bolts are being silver soldered this weekend so I should be able to move forward with machining for the extractors and firing pins soon.

Edit: I also started machining the parts for the gunners seat and hitch, I just need to get some 1/4" brass plate to finish them up.

My barrel liners finally came in, (been on back order for a few months) and my bolt assemblies are silver soldered and ready for final machining. I should have more to post soon.

It will if it's the last thing I do,

............. but yeah it should shoot just fine after everything is timed.
