This is the 16" Fluted.   If it shoots half as good as it looks I'll be a happy camper

Is that scale reading 1 pound, 15.3 oz.... a.k.a 31.3 oz?

I was wondering the same.  Around 2 lbs seems right to me.

Yep... just a tad under 2 lbs.

I've got a Sabre upper with their 16" mid length barrel and it's really nice.

I would buy another Sabre barrel for sure.

They seem to be a sleeper barrel of sorts...on the outside from a few feet away it looks like regular old USGI garbage.  On the inside, it's a killer precisely made implement of war.  I can't want to establish my first group with mine.  I really need the weather to warm up though for that to happen, da-gum-it!

A picture speaks volumes...18" midlength stainless fluted barrel

Nice work.  Looks like without that flyer you would have come in at around .60".  What is the twist rate on your barrel...I assume 1:7.7 or 1:8?

1:8 twist.  I am saving up to get another one soon...They are a little on the expensive side, but I figure you get what you pay for.  I am completely happy.  It took a few rounds to break it in...100 or so, but once that was done I imagine it shoots better than I am capable of.

I am in a bit of a self-imposed dilemma with my Sabre 20" barrel.  I bought it with the intent of building my first ever USGI A2 rifle...everything matching gov't specs to the last pin.  That would involve employing a USGI plastic hand-guard of course.  Now I'm asking myself if I really want to employ this awesome barrel on a non-floated upper.  Seems like it really deserves a float.

I was told by John Holliger at White Oak Armament that floating a barrel does on average tighten up a group by 16 inches at 500 yards.  I do 95% of my shooting at 100 yards but still, if what John says is true, that's quite a difference.

A good compromise might be one of those free float national match tubes that mimic the classic handguards.

DPMS and RRA among others.
