I understand that some bullets group better at close ranges because they tend to be more effected by wind drift, but I have a hard time seeing a 1" group at 100 yards ballooning to a 9-12" group at 300 yards.

If that's even what he's trying to say.  Could be another guy who doesn't understand what moa means.

It's irony.

The irony is; barring some enviormental factor, a bullets Minute of Angle does not change  in flight. From a machine rest; a one moa rifle shoots 1" (approximately for the nitpickers)@ 100 yds, 2" @ 200, 3" @ 300, and so on
a 2 inch moa gun shoots 2" @100, 4" @200, 6" @300.
If the shooter is good enough, it's the same from the bench.....

I'm sure someone will be along in a minute to correct whatever mistakes I've made

Why?

Everyone knows what 1 MOA at 500 yards is in Inches.

I guess I should explain -  recently there was actually a thread in which someone posted something very similar, but he was serious.  Since Molon likes to have a little fun with many of the oft-used misconceptions and exaggerations that tend to float around this and other sites, I thought it would be a good fit for this thread.

Edit - here is the actual quote for reference:

"1.5 MOA at 300 Meters is pretty damn good. thats .5 MOA at 100 yards roughly I'd call that decent shooting and very combat effective."

an always elightening post from MOLON.  Thanks for putting numbers and a visual reference to something you always knew but had no hard data on.

I will agree with the statement. "Any 1.5 MOA 10 shot group at 100 yards is an impressive group."

I don't come back here often but finding a new post by Molon is a real treat when I do. Thanks for the work and posted results. BTW for all the handloaders out there looking for a good load that works well in most rifles. I've found that 55gr. Vmax's  over 27.0 gr. of Varget in LC brass seated to 2.250 with CCI primers shoots very well in all my Ar's. Even the 1/7 WOA shoots it sub moa. to 200. It's my go to 3 gun load also.

Someone mention Olympic?? But FMJ sucks like a Shop Vac, in fact, in 38 years of reloading I've never seen FMJ shoot worth a shit in any caliber, rifle or load, especially consistantly. The FBBT was typo, it should be FBHP for flat base hollow point.

You need to use a ™ symbol when using the term "Throw Lever™" or be sued by the Dick.

Could someone please enlighten me as to why FMJ's do not produce very accurate results?  I realize that there are several different variables to consider not only in the bullet, but also with the firearm/shooter but is there a certain type of bullet that is "more accurate" than the others?

Thanks!

Open Tip Match bullets are far more accurate than Full Metal Jacket bullets.  For starters, it's becuase the FMJ bullets have an open base while the OTM bullets have a much more uniform closed base.

Some folks do not have to follow the rules.  This is a fact around here and further re-inforced when moderators who have "edited" others posts for the exact same offense jovially add to the thread.  Aside from this, good thread though.

Wrong.

Everyone is obligated to follow the rules.  If you or anybody else doesn't like it, find another website without conduct guidelines.  This one isn't changing and no one gets special treatment.  Ignore the rules and warnings at your own peril.
