InfiniteGrim:
You share my dilemma. I thought our military only bought M885 and that they also still had 1:12 barrels left. BUT, M885 may not be suited for 1:12 barrels (not clear as I had read that I was some time ago when it was introduced).
I have both “type” of barrels: older 1:12 and more recent 1:10 and 1:9. All I need to know is if I can standardize on one type of ammo, and assumed M193 was on the way out…

I did a lot of internet searching last night and all the DoD projections and briefings I could find only mention estiamtes for M855 and M855a1 for bulk purchases.

If you are keeping your 1:12 barrel and want to standardize.... buy 55gr ammo.

I remember this being posted by some mil guys that the navy and airforce had a ton of A1 style upper receivers with 1/12 twist and they were the ones buying M193.

M193 isn't going anywhere. Federal sells a shit load of it. Your 1/12 barrel is going to have trouble with M855 so dont waste you money.

That being said, XM ammunition IS new commercial ammo. The only stuff that was ever questionable were the "PD" marked bulk ammo from some years ago. There were all kinds of problems with that, mostly QC-related. It might have been new production ammo, but "floor sweepings" wasn't too far off from an accurate description in some cases. Member Stove_Pipe posted a of a round of XM855PD with a pretzel stick inside.

Wait a second....what?
