Real grapefruit at 100 yards.
If you can see it, you can hit it. Its about mindset, sight alignment, trigger control, and the three accuracy "B's": barrel, bullet, brass...in that order. I have found that once I started shooting iron sights at longer distances, hitting targets at shorter distances became easier....built confidence in my abilities. The video shows Matt shooting grapefruit at 100 yards, off-hand, with iron sights. |

Tried this today with the grapefruit target. Its a lot harder than it sounds. I got 7 in the pulp and 3 randoms using a M16A4 clone with TA31-F. I like the challenge, need to work on it though. Not proud enough of my shooting yet to post pics.

| I must be a pretty good shooter. I can hit a clay pigeon off hand at 50 yards 80% of the time with my aimpoint and M4 clone. I placed 10 birds and hit 9 out of 10 offhand at 50 yards(best effort). I believe a clay pigeon is around 5". I wish I had a video camera. I tried hitting clay birds off hand at 100 yards and my % went way down(using acog), it took me 40 rounds to hit 10 birds(wasn't giving it a great college effort). I believe that is due to the light front end of the M4. With an HBAR 20" I bet it would be easier. My range didn't allow real grape fruits. I believe it is much easier to use an aimpoint rather than a ACOG or scope. |

Got some freshly printed grapefruits and new BCM 14.5 middy with FSC 556 and Primary Arms red dot all sighted in and ready to go. Should have some dead fruit to post some time this week weather permitting.
Might even take out my Mega billet/Superior Barrels Hoplite out to see what I can do with that as well. We'll see.

Got a buddy helping me figure out a good load for my 308 and been practicing for my first IDPA match. Soon, very soon. |

If I could just find out how to down load video I have a CD from 2006 I was hitting styrafoam heads that hold wigs at 70 yds off hand with my old fixed handles wich are all now flat tops.It was a 2006 trip to vermont to St Albans gun club...to the Club sorry for the more than 3000 empties in expended ammo...wish I collected all that brass for 5.56,.308 and 7.62x39..plus .45,9mm and 12 ga. ammo..what a day that was.

| I shoot offhand a lot, and usually use about 6 in. balloons at 100 yards. It makes great practice, the average shooter needs to realize the bench is just for evaluating ammo and sighting in, that is all. Practice from offhand, sitting and prone last. I concentrate on prone the least as it is easier than the others and very seldom paractical in my hunting area due to tall grass, brush ,etc. |

Wow! That's humbling! Of course humbled is my usual range experience, but that had a paricularly strong effect!
Had a little trouble getting started(darn bugs), but I was able to put the last seven in, once I got it rollin'. Wish I'd had another for another try, but El Cheapo only printed two to save ink, shot the first one with my 10/22 for practice, thinking it might be easier to hit with( it wasn't) Room for improvement next time!

Well I finally made it to the range today to shoot some grapefruit. Sorry it took so long, I got sidetracked by my new reloading press. I am easily distracted.
My grapefruit are full of fail. Maybe I should skip the grapefruit and start with appleseed.

A little off topic and obviously he is at the top of the shooting world but did anyone see Miculek's segment on impossible shots Wed night? Not sure if it was a repeat but he shot a balloon at 200yds starting from the low ready position in under a second with an M&P 15-22. In sighting in for the 200 yds shot he shot a 3 shot group about 1-1/2 inches. Off hand. At 200yds. With a 22. Impressive. |

I went through an advanced marksmanship course once and my coach had me shoot the 600 meter string of fire from the sitting position just to see how I would do. I scored all hits on target with a rack grade M16A4 with iron sights. I was pretty happy with that. |
