When doing a quick search on Google using 13.9 or 13.7 pinned and welded to 16 threads alongside AR15.com, all I saw so far were already archived threads so questions couldn't be asked/answered and there seemed to be a lack of interest. I've got a BA 13.7 and plans to later purchase and having to P&W an FCD 6315KM-L. Already ordered the can for it which explains why I haven't bought the MD yet for it  . An active thread like this to include the 13.7 or 13.9 P&W would have been more useful really with lots of problems being self answered.

It can be any length and pin welded and it is still legal. This is my 12.5 done that way:

ATF's way of measurement is to drop a rod down the barrel and then measure it from there to where it must be at 16 in order for them to consider it being legal. Just asking for clarification of your statement  |

I have the NOX now which is a keymo, not great for a lefty or even in neutral. I ordered the 6315KM-L, another keymo. I may order the Dead Air Keymo three prong as well. It all depends on how much shims is too much and if things are what they say they are in lengths. |

It's an ok quality scope (I had two and both had issues with the reticles, leupold fixed both and I sold one) I want to put a medium power scope with a piggybacked red dot on it instead, I've been liking that setup lately. The 1.5x isn't bad if you practice with it, but not great compared to 1x. My pinned 14.5 family so far (Pic thread):

A lot of nice rifles in this topic I humbly submit my M4 “CE” Clones The M4 is a 14.7 P&W upper on a PSA M4 lower and was built from new parts TNTESales 14.7" 1/7 Hammer Forged M4 Profile w/A2 The M4A1 is a used Colt 14.5” P&W Upper on a PSA M4A1 Lower with the B5 Stock. The upper came with the KAC RIS and a Matech rear BUIS  |

Here are a few I did, for visual reference. I like using the 14.7 or the Adco spacer the most for looks: 14.7 pinned, used a 16in bbl and cut it down.  14.5 midlength with extended flash hider  14.5 with Adco spacer and a regular A2 flash hider  14.5 with extended A2 flash hider  |

14.5” P/W weld from ADCO, using as many Blemula and discount G parts as I could latch onto last year. Not wild about the Strike Eagle, but this was meant to be a loaner/beater build so it fits…

The answers to both of your questions are: absolutely not. The reasoning for that setup is because the little Trijicon 3x magnifier has the worst eye relief of any magnification optic I’ve ever bought. However, it in conjunction with the RMR makes a very light and nimble setup, so I found a way to work with the shitty eye relief. And yes, I realize iron sights would almost never be a necessity, but I use them on all of my rifles because I enjoy shooting with both optics and irons at the range. It probably looks a little strange, heck I know it does, but believe me, that set up absolutely works. No issues sighting with the irons or red dot alone or with the red dot w/magnifier, or with all of the above co-witnessed. With regard to the distance between the magnifier and red dot, I have a decent collection of rifles, many with combo setups, and there are different spaces between the optics and magnifiers on most of them. I believe they are all closer together than on this rifle, however that little bit of extra space makes no difference to my sighting/shooting. To the contrary, I find that it gives me a little more situational awareness & peripheral vision. It also allows more light into the optics than if the magnifier was right up against the red dot. |
