I have been shooting to 1k a lot lately and I am thinking of converting my 18” 6.5G to something that can more comfortably get out there without going transonic. And just keeping 6.5G for my 12.5”. I am looking to try something new in a small frame AR and a 20” 22ARC seems like just the ticket for shooting out to 1K with relatively cheap bullets (using 24cent 88gr ELDMs if I can get them to shoot) and a pretty meager powder charge, it makes for a pretty economical long range plinking load for weekly range trips. Who is making high quality AR barrels for 22ARC at the moment? It looks like Proof removed them from their website, who else do you guys like? The cartridge doesn’t seem as popular yet and will probably never be as popular as 6ARC but it seems ballistically a tiny step up from 6ARC while being cheaper to load. Am I way off base here? Part of it is just a desire to tinker, but it also seems like the best target round for a small frame AR at the moment, especially if energy isn’t a concern. Table with a 10mph full value wind and box data. I figure 50-75fps slower with a 20” barrel and handloads.  |
