Hey all, didnt find my answer by searching so here goes. Wanting to put together a 350 legend AR for my 13yo to deer hunt here, youth season so not a bunch of idiots winging slugs. Im thinking of using the faxon gunner 16" barrel. I will probably just swap barrels on a 5.56 I built awhile back but never shot. Now for muzzle device, I like linear compensators. I am leaning towards the Kaw Valley linear comp 9mm. Any issues using this? Anyone have suggestions? Wish I could find one or two, shouldve stocked up. I have lowers and stripped uppers and a few bcgs laying around. If not for the handguard I would just put together a whole new rifle! |

| Also, if anyone has any low recoil recommendations for 350 I am all ears. Probably keep it to 100yds, 150 max. Not trophy hunting. First 350 legend, I used to bowhunt but my shoulders cant take it and my boy cant pull enough weight yet. We are both small framed. |

Depending on your 13 yo, you might not need to worry about low recoil ammo, unless your entire build is super light. .350 Legend recoil isn't too much more than 5.56. Using that linear comp will reduce recoil slightly, too, as some of the gas hits the inside of the linear comp front face, pushing the gun forward. I'd suggest trying out a few ammo options on targets, see what flies truest from your barrel and how the recoil feels, and then determine if low recoil ammo is a good choice when when weighed against differences in precision and trajectory of the ammos you consider. Have your 13 yr. old help choose, as they'll be using it. Make a few range days of it, if you can find the time. Make it a teaching moment for the kiddo about weighing different factors when making a decision. You two get to have a fun time, and you earn a parenting win equivalent of an undefended layup at the same time. ETA: If you're really worried about recoil, spend the money on a good butt pad or butt pad cover and adjust your buffer system for the lowest recoil possible. For recoil sensitive shooters and/or calibers that have serious recoil (.450 BM, .458 SOCOM, .50 BEO), I have some standard approaches. With my rifles chambered in full length action rifle cartridges (.30-06, .270 Win, etc.) and days of 12 ga trap shooting, I just wear a shoulder pad. Not too expensive, they strap down, can be worn under a coat if necessary, and they work with any shouldered gun you use. Most add around 3/8"-5/8" to clothing thickness on the front of the shoulder. On the AR platform, I'm a big fan of Adaptive Tactical's EX Performance Adjustable stock. Uncompressed, it adds over an 1" to LOP, so the stock will need to be adjusted closer to the receiver than most other stocks out there. It's very soft and can compress quite a bit as higher force is applied. For your buffer system, you could either use the heaviest buffer your system will reliably cycle with and/or use an appropriate weight hydraulic buffer. The idea with either of these is to have more energy transfer to the shooter's shoulder during the rearward portion of the action cycling and less while the bullet is leaving the barrel, thus spreading out the energy transfer and making it feel both softer and smoother. But, be warned, tuning a buffer system can be tedious work if you try to make it perfect, as it can take some time and experimenting to balance the right amount of gas with the right weight buffer and the right strength spring. If you already understand, cool -- just want to explain so anyone reading this later on will have some extra info. |

Absoultely planned on this anyhow, I am just not familiar with 350 legend other than researching the ballistics it can offer. Any factory offerings that tend to do well in many different rifles? Sort of like federal GMM is the benchmark of 308, if your rifle wont shoot it respectably its probably your rifle. Thanks! |

Just an update for you guys, got the rifle together. Went with the 16" Faxon, used existing aero upper w/aero s-one atlas handguard. Had to order in a melonite carbine gas tube, I know I have one... somewhere... used the kaw valley 9mm linear comp. Lower is an old delton, milspec trigger im regretting, h2 buffer and swapped to a STR stock to help with cheek weld. Scope is a weaver 2-10x44 in a PEPR mount I had, cmmg mag i think. Just got back from sighting it in. Using Win deer season xp 150gr it did great. Started with 1 in the mag. Fed fine, locked back. Then 2 in the mag, fed just fine. No hiccups at all. Only put about 25 rds through it, I was in a hurry and some sketchys showed up at the range. My last shots I did a 3 shot group at 100yds. 10x with a gritty milspec trigger, all 3 shots were touching in the bullseye. Did not retrieve target for fear of getting shot in the back. Brass ejected nicely at about 4 o clock, all in all it ran perfectly. It has a touch more recoil than I hoped for an 80lb kid, off to find a better recoil pad for a magpul stock. Thanks for the update, good to hear it worked out. I noticed Joe Bobs Outfitters has Schmid two stage triggers for $88. I’ve heard these are very good triggers for the price. I have Geissele G2S, La Rue MBT-2S and RRA NM triggers in my AR-15’s but haven’t needed another trigger or I would buy a Schmid.
