Too much? I know it'll be heavy and long.....but is it TOO heavy and TOO long to make sense with 308? I was really looking at 4-16 and found a damned good deal on the 5-25. Pictures of similar setup looks ok to me but I've not held it in my hand so....looking to the hive for feedback.

Only you can decide if it’s too heavy. I’ve got an older 5-25 I thought about for my AR10 but it’s too heavy as is.

That's why I mentioned 308, I think for 6.5, it might be the better caliber/option. So.....I went ahead with the 4-16 instead; I'm certain that will fill my needs even though it was a little more money. Thanks y'all....

I think 5x is too high on the lower end, preferring a 3-15x on my 6.5 CM. I also don't use have a secondary sighting system for close range, so take that into account. I don't know about your area, but mirage here makes anything over 20x basically unusable.

I have a 5x25 Vortex PST II FFP scope on my AR.308.  It is rather heavy, but I only intend to use it for bench shooting and shooting longer range.  Not humping or gun fighting.

I have a 4-16 that was supposed to be delivered yesterday.  It's going on my 16" but if I had a 20" I don't think I'd bump up to the 5-25.

How badly do you want to hit what you're aiming at?

The capability of the entire system (including the shooter) is the sum of its parts.

Both 6.5 CM. I bought the 5-25 first, then got the 4-16 later. I like the higher magnification of the 5-25, but haven't really felt under scoped on the 4-16 at 1100 yards and it has a smaller footprint and a little bit lighter weight.

I think a damn good compromise would be a 2.5-20 NX8.

Thanks. I went 4-16 ATACR but do like that NX8 2.5-20; will keep that in mind should this not work or for another rifle I have for sale that isn't moving. I may just keep it, glass it and shoot it.
