Been trying to find a decent 12/12.5 6mm arc barrel and keep coming up short. I have a few barrels ive tried. Most had unremarkabke but I suppose ok accuracy. Like 1.5 to 2.5 moa with the noveske being the best of the 4 ive tried. Would like to find one a little better than that. All of them ran decent except the latest one. A craddock rtr i tried out today. FTE, stove pipes and short stroking. This was with a can adding back pressure. Attached File Things I checked: -Geisselle mag - would do it even with no mag inserted - Same mags I use with my three other 6mm arc uppers that run without issues -Carbine buffer and spring - Same lower I use with my three other 6mm arc uppers that run without issues -Gas block - Aligned with the dimple and hasn't shifted. Appears dimpled in the correct place. Superlative adjustable, double checked it was set to wide open (18 clicks out). Setup exactly like my other 6 arc rifles that cycle. -BCG/Bolt - BCM bcg with Rexus bolt, same bolt/bcg I use with my other 6mm arc uppers that run without issue. -Extractor and extractor spring - Checked them both, seem fine. Spring isn't broken. Newer bolt. -Gas key - Look fine and staked -Gas rings - passed field test -Gas tube roll pin - still there -Ammo - Used Hornady ELD 108s, cycle fine in every other 6arc I own I honestly am only left with the barrel. All of these parts have been used in functioning uppers before. The rounds that did successfully eject barely came out. With a wide open gas block, suppressor, and carbine spring/buffer they should be ejecting with authority. Undersized port or tight chamber id guess. Im going to swap the barrel with one of the known working uppers and leave everything else the same. If it chokes, I know its the barrel. Other issue. Accuracy. I was shooting off of a bench and bags. I was getting 3 moa 5 round groups @ 100 yards with hornady ELD. Rough. Attached File Attached File And I am a capable shooter. I have some sub moa barrels in the safe. Shot these off the same bench and bags with a different rifle. Attached File The scope was a trijicon credo that was printing an inch or less groups on my other bartlein barreled AR. I would think its holding zero. I just cant believe all these barrels shoot this rough. My next idea was going to be swapping the barrel into a known working upper, just to confirm the barrel is the issue, and then grab a different known working scope. See if for some reason my credo was causing problems. Anyways having some pretty rotten luck at the range lately. Im usually the person helping people fix their guns so it feels strange to be on the other side. Anyone found a 12/12.5 barrel that likes ELDs? I really like how short it is and how well it travels to 700 yards. Really don't want to abandon the cartridge. I like what it can do i just hate playing the barrel lottery. I'd honestly be happy with a barrel that consistently prints 1.75 or less for this build. |

Took one of my known reliable uppers and swapped the rtr with the barrel it had. Same exact failures. So it is 100% the barrel. Emailed cradock about the issue and poor accuracy. And with the other scope it didnt shoot any better. Took the noveske and it shot better. But still in that 1.5 to 2 in. range... not fantastic with match ammo |
