A couple of months ago posted a pic of 9 of the 7.62x51mm British tracer trials from the early 60's. The object was to obtain a trace out to 1300 yards matching the trajectory to a ball round at certain ranges. A total of 18 different variations of these with headstamps K61/ L5A1 were made in limited numbers and all have hand painted tips. A lot of work has been done previously on trajaectory matching and several degraded ogive bullets had been developed to better match ball bullets as the tracer bullet becomes lighter at longer ranges. Although none of these cartridges entered service in the UK, one of the designs with a degraded ogive appears to have been a starting point for the Australian F3 tracer that did enter into service for that country. Out of the 6 cut, only 2 of them were mine and neither had the same ogive so just those weights alone would not do you any good. The gentleman who had me section the other 4 is writting a paper up about this long lost information and will ask him for the other weights, will post them as soon as I get them. Without cutting these in half, the only other way to see the make up inside would have been Xray's. Thats how he knew which ones to cut first.
