i have the Bushmaster DCM that had the A2 FF assembly already on it ,then i found a Ban Era Colt Match Target that i installed the A2 free float system on it , both are weighted and are absolute tanks but have zero movement off the bag , both are as steady as you can hope for found another ban era Bushmaster HBAR , i decided to only do the A2 FF NM kit on and no weights , someone previously threaded the barrel and installed a A2 birdcage ,does not hurt my feelings i can live with them either way with or without , so ordered the Free Float kit last night , will be scoping this one with a Leupold Vx for a different set up than the two NM setups with the Colt and DCM rifles |

not sure what it weighs , when i did the Colt i knew i was adding butt and handguard weights anyway so the added weight was of zero concern , this rifle im looking for a more tame version and like i said i want to scope this one but want the tube for partly because of bench shooting and partly a tinker fix in the vein ,lol as for what they allow i dont shoot competitively just on the farm plinking for fun ,i think , at least for me its more aesthetics , want to keep the A2 vibe while enjoying the attributes of FF , the whole system including the NM handguard was only $140 ,and was a very straight forward install , the only issue i had with the Colt was the barrel nut , i literally snapped the pins on a Wheeler armorers wrench ,wheeler stuff is junk had a T handle snap off in a screw , but thats another story i ended up scoring the barrel nut with a dremel on two sides , touched with some heat just to warm not hot , and with a beasty armorers Real Avid wrench it broke free , Colt used zero nut butter on the barrel nut , so i had to replace the barrel nut to finish , tempted to ordering another just to be safe , i have a receiver set i havnt figured what i want to do with yet so if i end up getting it off with no issues i will have it for that set |

nothing preventing you from popping it in a drill press before installation and drilling holes in the top , the NM handguard has vent holes , if you are worried about heat then drilling corresponding holes with the handguard https://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=1408 |

I have tried these things and gave up on them. Partly because of old age (weaker) and partly because it never helped me shoot better scores. Offhand would be the only position anyone might find extra weight useful. |
