So I have built 2 rifles almost exactly the same. One is mine one is my best friends. His rifle shoots like a dream, mine kicks like a mule. Both are Aero Precision builds. Both from receiver sets. Both use Sharps Rifle Co bolts. Both have 2 stage triggers. Both have the rifle speed adjustable gas block. For all intents and purposes THE EXACT SAME RIFLE... except for on part... the barrel... (both are 16" mid-lengths BTW) My friend has a Criterion pencil barrel I have a Ballistics advantage SPR fluted barrel I have tried gas settings, buffer weights, springco springs and NOTHING has worked. nothing has been anywhere near as pleasant to shoot as my buddy's AR as I built it. I really dont want to buy a new barrel (and gas block) but at this point IDK if i have any other options. Looking for any possible cause. tired of pulling my hair out. Thanks, Jon P |

Muzzle device is my guess, but lighter rifles are also easier to control once you have some experience driving a rifle. Keep in mind some of the most effective comps/brakes can trick you into thinking the rifle has more “kick” too. Concussive disorientation is a real thing, and the extra sound pressure levels of a brake rattle the nerves in your muscles, lungs, teeth, eyes, sinuses, and ears. Most new shooters perceive this as recoil but the body just needs to adjust to it. Same reason experienced shooters stop blinking during gun shots. |

Are both the same gas port location? One rifle length, one carbine length ? Either way, even with different port locations, it's a 5.56, so it still shouldn't be harsh. Have you tried swapping bolts and carriers with your buddy, swap out the charging handle too. If you don't notice a difference using his bolt and carrier and charging handle, pull your gas block and measure the port size and check with the maker on what it should be. It could be larger than advertised. |

I'd bet the Aero barrel has a much larger gas port. I would try restricting the gas all the way down to "closed", installing the lightest weight buffer setup, and slowly opening the adj. gb until you have a 100% lock back on a single mag fed round. |
