| Just wondering who makes their own slings? I had a bunch of this 1 1/4" strap laying around and decided to make a few slings. This is what i used DIY Adjustable Sling. I got the hardware from amazon first 2 i made i used the 1.5" hardware. Both worked fine. Needed more tri glide slides but this time i got the 1 1/4". Each sling uses 5 tri glide slides and 1 ladder lock slide adjuster. |

The first time i saw a silent sling the lightbulb went off. I've made a few. And played around with the designs. But store bought slings are still my goto because i only need a few and they have better sewing machines than i can afford. |

This is the strap I used. Should be strong enuff for a rifle.

I’ve made a bunch over the years, zebra stripe, red, blue, plain old black. With so many calibers, 5.56, 5.45, 22 Nosler, I like to color code the rifle by using a certain sling = a certain caliber. Then I use matching painters tape on the mags so I don’t accidentally load the wrong mag in the wrong gun. |

I dyed it black using Rit dye it turned out more grey than black maybe one day i'l dye them again using the the synthetic blend dye.

Did you heat the water first? If not, you can do I all over again. |
| Yes I boiled the water dye mix and I added a splash of vinegar and some dish soap. I used the all purpose next time I'll use the DyeMore made for synthetic fabrics like polyester, acrylic, acetate, plus blends that contain those fibers. |

Now for something completely different. This is a traditional hunting shoulder-carry sling I made just a week or so ago. It is for a recently built a custom .22LR on a [modified] AR platform that required a little more than bolting together. The gun is youth sized -- I'm hoping I can give it to my for my young niece in a year or two. On a lark, I combined 2 of my hobbies in this sling: making chain mail armor and guns. I made this youth-sized sling out of aluminum rings (14 ga, 3/8") and paracord and swivel sling connectors:  This was a first attempt, still in the workshopping process, using only what I had on hand. Weight is 7.6 oz., and being aluminum and having the paracord in there, it's quiet. In an emergency/survival situation, the paracord could be completely removed and the sling would still function, though not have the same strength and less quietly. The split ring serves the purpose of a thumb-hole. Not sure I like that ring, but it's a slow process weaving that darned ring in and out to try it in a different spot, lol. |

Attached File Attached File ESD on the right. My copy on left, if the stitch quality didn't make that obvious. The hardware consists of 4 ITW tri-glides and 1 ITW GTLL ladder lock. I'll probably buy the ESD pull tabs. The elastic is 70-E. My sewing machine does NOT like sewing 4 layers of that. The webbing is A-A-55301, but I think the ESD may be MIL-W-17337. Regardless, it adjusts like silk. I tried a Jaquard A-A-55301 webbing too, but it doesn't feed well at all. Very stiff and crunchy sounding. *edit - the jacquard webbing does soften up with washings and wear, but it is still a stiffer webbing overall. |

I stumbled upon this while looking for cheaper alternatives to the Q sling devils. I never would have thought of using $1.50 of tac toggles to do the job, though they are a bit larger.  Tac Toggle sling attachment (better than the sling devil?) Maybe... |
