| I bought my PSA Jakl about 2 months ago and SBR'd it and was very excited to go shooting this weekend....I took it out to the range and shot about 30 rounds using 3 different types of 5.56 ammo and it would not cycle.... I tried all the settings on the gas plug, and it still would not function. I have to say I was surprised and a bit disappointed since it seems like a sound design and is well made. |

I did, 5.56 Jakl full upper kit not factory complete gun. Gas knob wide open it would fully cycle Winchester/lake city 193/855 and even wolf gold but still seemed sluggish with all of them to me. It would mostly cycle with .223 PMC bronze and Barnaul wolf with gas wide open but would only lock back on the carrier occasionally when the last rd fired, never the bolt face. The bolt generally just closed again when the last rd fired shooting the weaker stuff. The next smaller port would eject and usually strip the next rd with 193/855 but locked open on the carrier if at all on the last rd. Same port wouldn't even eject Bronze or wolf most of the time. SBR lower using a stock the entire time so no flimsy triangle brace in play. Side note. The upper had to have been test fired at PSA, the chamber was lightly fouled and there was a red primer sealant residue on the bolt face right out of the box. I couldn't find anything mechanically wrong. GB/GP lined up with no obstruction (inspected with bore scope) Also, the GP appeared to be just as large as the GB opening, no way of measuring without removing the GB, just what my eyeballs could see on the image. based on the carbon ring surrounding the port for each gas knob setting I used, these ports looked lined up as well. Gas Piston looked fine with good alignment to the GB. Chamber also looked good. Bolt to barrel extension alignment also looked good, no dings or shinny spots on the lugs or extension indicating misalignment. Carrier felt smooth enough hand racking it and it was WELL lubed. I'm sure I could have sent it back. But I decided to just open the gas knob ports. I have a large drill bit index set so I gauged the 2nd gas knob port with a bit that JUST fit, then opened from there using the next larger size drill bit one at a time until it cycled well with 193/855 ammo. It doesn't feel over gassed at all to me and locks open on the carrier rather than the bolt face occasionally when I shoot .223 bronze or wolf steel at this setting. Then, I opened the full gas knob port the same way until it ran well with weaker .223 Bronze/wolf steel ammo. Wide open now also seems like it will work well for an adverse setting with hotter ammo, it does not seem horribly over gassed when clean shooting 193/855 ammo wide open but I can certainly feel the difference in recoil/carrier speed between wide open and setting 2 with the hotter stuff. I have around 1500rds of trouble-free function since opening the ports. full gas for weaker .223 stuff and setting 2 for 5.56 ammo. Setting 3 and 4, the smallest ports, are reserved for suppressor trials once the ATF get off their ass and approves my cans  I still have the unused suppressor knob but I don't expect to need it. If I have any luck at all, it will run fine suppressed using one of the two small ports on the standard gas knob |

| I have an 300 BO full Jakl and I haven’t been able to get it to cycle more than two rounds at a time. Weird thing is it’s super gassy! I mean gas everywhere but in the gas block. So far I’ve run only supers through cause I don’t want to waste subs fooling with this thing. Went through the gas ports and everything appears to be in order. Guess I’m gonna have to send it back and let PSA sort it out. Very disappointing nonetheless. |

My 5.56 and 300 have been flawless. My Brothers 5.56 would not cycle. I suggested running it with a suppressor on it for a few mags wide open to "break it in" He did so, and it has functioned for him ever since. |

300 Blackout upper on SBR lower with YHM Phantom suppressor. Set on number 5 setting it cycled sub and supersonic ammo. I did have a box of 220 gn subsonic ammo that would not load, bolt would not go into battery. Don't know the brand because I loaded the magazine and threw the box away. Was a brand I have not seen since that I got cheap at the local gun store. EDIT: Found the box, Grizzly Cartridge Company, the rounds do not look like what is on their website, these must be old stock I found. It did cycle my 245 GN reloads without issue, 245 GN Missouri Bullet Company tech coated lead bullets. Fired 60 rounds without a problem. Also cycled 150 GN supersonic without issue from 3 different brands. Over all I fired 80 sub and 60 super with only the one off brand sub's not going into battery. Didn't test accuracy, I was on the target at 25 yards but at 10 DEG I didn't feel like trying to test sub moa shooting. |
