Very nice! Mine is just an afternoon of free time away from being assembled.
Similar parts list don to the Brown Brownells stocks painted with Moeller Zinc Phosphate. I did use a 1/12 barrel though. Good note about the slip ring. I'll have to see if I have another less shiny one. I could Moly coat it Colt Flat Gray Black at least. Mine isn't work though. At least not yet... |

That’s not battle worn… it just came from the Puerto Rico police department the rest of the 601 kits came from! Lol

You could say that about any semi auto version / clone of an originally fully-automatic rifle People are often into retro because of the patina they have. You don’t get that with new production parts. People are paying $1500 for 601 barrels, $2,500 for handguards, etc… that’s not feasible for everyone |

I just ordered THESE ones from Ar15sport a few days ago. It says they're the same as originals, so hopefully so. Haven't gotten them yet, but they're in the mail.
I can swap out the one I just did on my Hydra-Matic build, and wait to finish my 601. I'm kind of screwed on my GUU-5/P though since its pinned and welded. Which I had realized/learned about them being too thick earlier! |

I used a file or 2 and dry sponges with green scrubby stuff. Filed all edges in the wear zone, used the file with no handle to cause some random scratches as spots. And a lot of green scrubby pad on all the rest as needed. I also used the file to gouge certain areas. Mighta overdone it a hair, but whatever lol. I did use h2o2, and salt to oxidize all the small parts. |

Nice 601 clone OP! How did you "weather" the handguards? Particularly where the brown shows through?

Thanks. I ended up getting a brown set from Brownells and used the Moeller Zinc Phosphate on it. I did 3 coats and used a white scotchbrite pad to put some wear in high use places, then put the furniture set in a box with a dozen or so large bolts and screws, closed the box and shook it for about 30 seconds. Then used the scotchbrite pad a bit more and did the box shaking again. That gave it some different size nicks, a few minor scrapes, and then the scotchbrite added wear in some places through one coat and in some places down to the brown color.
Appreciate the idea. |

OP, nice build.
What exactly does this mean? "Modded bolt catch myself." Did you remove material to replicate the early style, or was it to comply with some local law that prevents the local yutes from engaging in reckless behavior? |
