I have a lower receiver, I want to get an 300 black out and can't decide on what I want.
First, I may not be able to use a silencer on this gun so not sure if I should get a longer barrel length because of this? What barrel length should I get? 7.5" 8", 10", 10.5" ? What would you consider the best deal for a 300 blackout complete upper? Not something cheap though, I heard some PSA owners say they get 4 MOA out of their guns from PSA which has me worried. Thanks for the recommendations. I really am lost what to buy. Please let me know what is a good deal for me to buy and what barrel length I should consider getting. |

Not too many responses. Kind of wonder why.
What I'm thinking is maybe its best to just get something really cheap at first, like a PSA 300 blackout for under $300. Then from there you can see what you like and don't like after shooting and carrying the gun around, and then buy something better if necessary. Maybe the PSA will just be fine and you will be like why bother spending anything extra? Or maybe you will think the barrel accuracy sucks, the gun is unreliable, the hand guard sucks, the barrel length is not right, the twist is not right, etc. Since you can buy something so cheap from PSA, it kind of makes sense to buy cheap at first, use the gun, then you will know exactly what you need and want. Worst thing is you have a backup Upper for parts or when Biden bans the guns. What do you guys think of going this route? Somehow I have a nasty suspicion that all the guns out there are made so well, if made in the USA like PSA, that its really not worth spending $1000 on something you can buy for $300 from PSA. |

Build > buy. Rifles last a lifetime. Buy something you will want to have for a lifetime. Or you can go cheap and latter sell then upgrade which sucks. I'd be looking at Radian model 1 Sig mcx virtus Kac sr30 Noveske n4pdw If your not into spending 1.5k on an upper Bcm Maybe cmmg |

Have a PSA 300 8.5" upper on a PSA pistol lower. Didn't change anything with either assembly, just added a 2.5x scope so I could see.
Have never bothered to shoot it for accuracy, but was easily hitting a 9.5x20" steel target at 100yds, not putting any effort in. No malfunctions other than learning 300 BLK seems to be a bit more finicky reloading for function, than other rounds I have loaded for. But that isnt the guns fault. Normally shooting supersonic, but the subs I loaded functioned fine. Only complaint I had on the upper or lower was the muzzle device crush washer was disfigured, but that was solely cosmetic. Gun does what I need it to do, and didnt break the bank. It's fun to shoot, and at closer ranges, has good energy, particularly considering the short barrel. FWIW I think anything longer than about 9" is relatively pointless, numerous other rounds will outclass it with a couple more inches. Edit: at ~$500, I can be hard on it (wet weather, bouncing around in the truck, falling with it) and not hurt my feelings when it gets scratched. |

I went with an 8.5" PSA upper. Ran like a champ and cycled everything right out of the box, including lockback on 220 subs without a can.
I've since switched out the barrel to a 9" BA Performance series. Cycles everything, but won't lockback on subs (without a can). Not a huge issue, but I do have to remember to take a different lower to the range and try it....the one it is on now has a LAW folder, which does add weight to the BCG. The gas port is a lot smaller. That PSA was fine. If I were to do it again, I would build instead of buy. Aero upper and lower....same barrel (maybe go back to 8.5"), Toolcraft BCG, but part of the reason is because I don't want to add to my collection of PSA barrels sitting in a box (after they are swapped out). As far as length goes, 8" to 9" are the most common options...but it not uncommon to see anything from 7" to 10.5", although there tends to be a gap between 9" and 10.5" (not a lot of 9.5" or 10" inch barrels). Hog/deer hunters often use 10.5" (I actually think 10.5" is underrated). While the performance is not a "huge" step up from 9", a 10.5" 300 beats a 10.5" 5.56 (out to 300 yards) when you compare the numbers side by side using something like 110gr VMAX vs a top tier 77gr OTM. Plus, it will be less harsh to shoot and have far less flash and blast...and you can run a 10" rail. With that said, for 200 yards and in (which is why we probably have a short barrels in the first place), it is hard to beat the 8-9" 300. |

agree with the PSA comments of budget is the primary driver. Aero could be another good budget option. I also agree with the comment about rifles lasting forever. we've all bought cheap shit and regretted it. I'd be looking for something slightly higher on the scales if it were me. |
| I have a Ghost Firearms Vital 10.5” that is 1 moa all day with 125gr. The 110s don’t group as well with that barrel for whatever reason. I think it was like $219 if I remember right, no BCG or CH though. I have an extra raptor and BCG laying around so it was all good |

You can spend less and you can spend a lot more... I have a 9.5" I think it is with a SF 300SPS can and I love it. Its been perfect no matter what (Super or Subs)(suppressed or Un) I shoot though it. |

| OP I ordered this 8.5" pistol kit for my Dad. Figure it'll be good enough for a tractor gun/kritter gitter. Will live with a F1 can on it. They have 7" barrel versions cheaper but no free shipping. |

This is basically the same as asking the best bang for your buck with a 5.56 upper. Probably get the same answers.
Everything is the same except the barrel and the length of the gas tube. Half the time you look for something on clearance from PSA, and simply modify that. I don't know how many PSA parts I have where I bought a kit or package with the intention of only using part of it. Of course, then you end up eventually buying another kit or package because you are only a few parts away from another build. Perfect example. This is $329 right now. If this had free shipping, I would be tempted to order it. I have no use for a the barrel, but the Romeo 5 and MBUS sights are worth $200 alone. So getting the upper, gas block and rail for $130 isn't bad at all. Add new barrel, gas tube, and maybe a better gas block (or not) and you are GTG. https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-10-5-5-56-nato-1-7-phosphate-9-lightweight-m-lok-upper-w-sig-sauer-romeo-5-mbus-sight-set-no-bcg-or-ch.html]

| I know my 16" barrel is noticeably quieter than my 7.5" barrel with the suppressor. That's about it for me. |

Might help if you tell us about how much $$$ you want to spend.
I have more than a few PSA uppers in various calibers and they’re all good shooters no issues. But if you want a deal on PSA you’ll want to wait for a sale. Bear Creek will be cheaper, I only have one BCA upper but it was $50 cheaper than a comparable PSA and works fine. Both seem to have good CS. I also put a 9mm carbine together with a Ghost upper on sale and it was the second cheapest upper I could find and it was very well finished, and functioned just fine. In .300bo both my 16” & 8” are PSA. They seem to group well with cheap S&B and Magtec in sub and super loads and perform very well with ADI MSR (144 gr. super). |

I don't think chrome lining is very important for .300, it's not hard on barrels. It's adequate; i just wouldn't buy another one. In contrast, I think the BA Hanson profile barrels are fantastic. At some point I'm likely to pull the BCM barrel and replace it with another one of those, keeping the BCM as a spare. If you know someone that has the tools to barrel an upper you cannot beat the bang-for-the-buck on assembling your own. Otherwise... buying cheap before buying something nicer is a waste of sales tax, shipping, and ammo costs (for zeroing). I'd suggest something like what DSG Arms or Aero Precision puts out for a less expensive complete upper. Or... keep an eye out on the EE for lightly used factory uppers. |

Can usually always find a good .300 upper on the EE. That’s where I got mine. It’s a PSA and got it for almost 1/2 what it would have cost me from PSA and saved on shipping and sales tax too. Previous owner said less than 100 rounds and honestly looked unfired. |

I came across SOTA Arms years ago after buying a upper from someone getting out of 300 BO. Turned out to be a good shooter so bought more uppers from them in 300 BO. Decent price. You can check them out for yourself. Mine shoot MOA all day long. https://sotaarms.com |

300 blackout is a fantastic candidate for skipping most of the premium parts and going more budget. You don't need to worry about making long shots with it, so reliability and acceptable accuracy are the critical considerations. An Aero, PSA, or something similar is more than fine. If you want to lean more towards reliability, then just grab a BCM 300 blackout upper and call it a day. What you don't need to do is splash out big cash for a gun you'll rarely be shooting past 50-100 yards. If you need a true backpack gun, then a Sig Rattler is the lone exception that justifies the higher cost. Buy that budget 300 blackout upper and run it hard for 400-500 rounds to test for functionality. Most of those factory complete uppers will exhibit any problematic behavior in the first 10-50 rounds, so if you get a few hundred rounds through it and you're not observing malfunctions, it's good to go. One of the big advantages of buying a new complete upper is that you don't have to sit there and diagnose issues. If something isn't working, just send it back for a replacement. |
