Hello. I'm building a mid length carbine with a 16 inch barrel. I was inquiring what is the best a2 style hand guards that are close to military spec. I hate the cheap ones that flex too much. |

The "best" would be the very rare Lone Star mid length handguards. They're long out of production, and expensive when found. (not my photo - it's the one on the lower left) Attached File The "2nd Best" (and available) would be from the S&W M&P 10. They look very similar, but don't have any heat shields. Attached File Both use the round front end cap. |

I have a set on a dedicated .22 upper. They use the round front retainer and they do not have heat shields. Make sure that works for your application.

O.P. I found the Oval / M-4 / fat hand guards were pretty stout. They have heat shields too in case you need to mow down wave after wave of Jihadi Terrorists. Bigger_Hammer
