I had to stop building my lower in the middle and I am not sure if the bolt catch roll pin is still where I put it in the receiver.  Is there an easy way to check?

Not sure of the question? Can't you see the pin, it's not hidden?

Is the bolt catch still in the receiver?  If so, I expect the pin is as well.

If it is installed and the bolt catch is installed, it is there.

If it is installed and the bolt catch in not installed you should see it.

If you put it somewhere else in the receiver you should look or check there.

If you have no clue then no one else will either.

The bolt catch pin is one of the more "difficult" chores in building a lower.  I sure wouldn't install the pin, just to not lose it, without installing the catch and spring.  Jus sayin

Try and run a toothpick through the hole if you can't see whether it is in there.

I stopped using roll pins for bolt catches, I use the pin that's similar to the dust cover style with c clip.

It is not.
If you started tapping it in and stopped, it will be sticking out of the receiver.

I'm confused.

It's either there or not.

Why the guesswork?

I'm guessing there are details to the OP's situation that he didn't explain clearly? It would seem to be an easily conducted investigation into the pin, with a straight forward conclusion, either you see a pin or you don't. There's gotta be more to this mystery!

I'm going to guess the catch wasn't held in place and the pin went in behind the catch. Hard to do, but possible.
