Colt's Manufacturing Company LLC (Colt) has recently discovered a potential safety issue with certain modern sporting rifles ("MSRs"). Colt is voluntarily initiating a recall to protect the safety of its customers because, under certain conditions, it is possible that some of these MSRs may discharge a second round when the trigger is released when there is a live round in the chamber.

Colt is committed to the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction. In keeping with that commitment, during routine quality testing, Colt discovered that hammers that do not meet Colt's specifications were installed in certain MSRs that were manufactured beginning on March 5, 2021. The issue will be corrected by replacing the hammers in affected MSRs.

The recall only covers a portion of MSRs manufactured beginning on March 5, 2021, and includes the following models: AR15A4, CR6700A4, CR6920, CR6920-EPR, CR6920MPS-B, CR6921, CR6921-EPR, CR6933, CR6933-EPR, CR6960, LE6920-EPR, LE6920MPS-B, LE6920-OEM1, LE6920-OEM2, LE6920-R, LE6933-EPR, SP633784, LE6920SOCOM.

The following chart lists all the serial numbers for those models that may potentially be subject to the recall:
Model MarkingSerial Numbers
AR-15 A4CAR022851  CAR023250
CARBINECR036354  CR099599
CARBINECR713001  CR722100
M4 CARBINECR716801  CR721500
M4A1 CARBINECR021580  CR022024

To prevent the possibility of death or serious personal injury, Colt advises anyone who has purchased a Colt MSR since March 5, 2021 to stop using it immediately and visit ColtRepairMSR.com or call Customer Service at 1-800-971-3216 to see if your specific MSR is affected. Please note: Not all MSRs within the serial number range in the above chart are subject to this recall and this website offers easy, step-by-step instructions to determine if a particular MSR is affected.

Customer service agents will assist anyone who needs additional help. Our expert craftsmen are ready to upgrade all affected MSRs at our West Hartford, CT headquarters.

All AR-15s and M16s can do this if the disconnector is out of spec.

I've seen it many times.

It's an easy fix.

Armalite had one few years ago for hammer/disconnector.  Daniel Defense had a safety notice for disconnectors a few years ago.

I guess Colt can stop pretending their rifles are the same they’ve always been.

Be careful, you can’t say anything but praise for Colt or Colt parts guns.

Because this is the first time that a manufacturer of AR rifles has had a component recall/issue.

Anyone figured out how to send back just hammers? On the recall site, they have a drop down question for that, and it just directs you to the recall website
I'm sorry if the above info makes no sense. I'm kind of an idiot.

Checking numbers

ETA:  I have one.  It seems like a lot of trouble to send back the lower and worry about it making it back, vs just buying a Colt hammer (which of course are out of stock everywhere ).

ETA2:  Turns out I had two rifles on the list.  With all the shipping problems people have had, and against my better judgement, I shipped them out and they arrived in CT late yesterday. Turn-around is supposed to be 14 days.  We’ll see.

We let Colt know how many of our rifles were affected that we had in stock and they just sent us hammers. I swapped them out in an afternoon.

My understanding is that unless one is a Certified Colt Armorer replacement components will not be supplied. The entire gun has to be sent for recall work.

They mention on their site about individual hammers purchased from Brownells, so if they'd just swap them out, I'd be happy.

Im not willing to send 3 lowers in the mail for $20 worth of parts.

I’d sooner just throw an MBT in it than dealing with a lower being in USPS possession around the Holidays.

Average person wouldn't even think they could take something like that on, as easy as it would be.

Sending an entire rifle over a simple part swap is a PITA.

Intimidation of performing the task for some, others will not want to part with the ~$30-$40 for another hammer.

I see where Colt is coming from, liability and all though.

Right I understand colt really has no other options. I know money is relative and I know people will go through all sorts of trouble to not spend that $30.

Anyway yeah Colt will just eat shipping costs i guess.

Oh, I know.  Just replying to his post, and referring to the average arfcommer.  At least, I hope most here could throw a polished up mil-spec set in there

Maybe the cost as tig mentioned would prevent a couple arfcomers from swapping on our own.

Wasn't arguing with you at all I agree.

Out of a dozen guys at my shop that own ARs I've been asked to perform the simplest of tasks many times.

My standard response now is" No, I won't do it for you. But I'll share my tools and tell you how to do it".

Some still turn down the offer.

The shop I work at was told to ship the trigger groups back, and we did so. It appears that the affected triggers were subcontracted out to CMC, as CMC was on the Shipping To part of the label... though the address was West Hartford.

ETA: I just realized it could mean "Colt's Manufacturing Company" rather than the other company. My bad.

Actually, I just realized that "CMC" might mean "Colt's Manufacturing Company". Do they still use that name? I feel kind of silly now. When I saw "CMC" my mind immediately went to the other company, as we sell a lot of their triggers.

I have 3 OEM2's with the bad hammers.

I can't see where there's an issue with very thorough function checks, so I think I'm just gonna take my chances and skip this.
