Got my socom barrel from arms unlimited. Pinned a asr flash hider on it. Very happy with the way it shoots. Seldom gets shot without a can.

Stripped Socom's are hard to find, do the FSB versions shoot just as well if free floated?

For my money, the Colt SOCOM profile M4 barrel is the best general purpose AR barrel on the market.

I've been checking armsunlimited for the past 2-3 months as they have the best price I could find, but they've been showing "out of stock" Probably close to two years ago. They had a sale and I think it was $225 or so? I wanted something short so I replaced a 20” gov profile barrel that I had cut to18”. |

Now with this mount, the 1X is blazing fast and the 8X is much more forgiving. Some have expressed concern about higher mounts creating sacrifices in precision, but I did not find that to be the case. 10 shot group at 100yds using 75gr Hornady Match. I have one of these barrels NIB waiting on me to build another upper. I just built an upper with the relatively rare Daniel Defense SOCOM profile 14.5 CHF barrel, it shoots on par with Colt SOCOM barrels which I'm thrilled about. I've been waffling on the NX8 1-8 vs Vortex Razor 1-10. Do you have a hard time shooting prone with a mount that tall? I usually run 1.54"ish height, but was thinking about trying 1.7" high Badger this time around. |

If one spends most of his time laying behind a rifle, the lower mount would probably be better, but this was still very doable and I still have a solid cheekweld with no neck cramping. Just not laying "on" the rifle as much. For my uses, though, the taller mount definitely wins. |

I have one like that, IIRC, came in that same box (still have the box somewhere), had John Thomas pin and weld an extended A2 FS. |
