Sorry guys, I couldn't find my original post to add the photos to so here is a new one. This post will show the characteristics of the 2nd Generation Version 1 , 2 and 3. Version 1 is a plain aluminum non coated stock made by NEWTON NEW HAVEN for Colt , Newton NewHaven also produced the 2nd version stock, the vinyl - Acetate coated Aluminum stocks. I have here an uncoated early version, a Vinyl-Acetate coated Aluminum stock stamped 1 [NN] , another Vinyl-Acetate coated Aluminum stock with 2 [NN] and a vinyl, plastic, stock with the 1N markings.     The mold markings on the Gen 2 1st version all aluminum stock : Mold 1 and [NN] , underside of lever is marked Newton NewHaven and the #3 The lever pin is left in the white and the bottom of the stock and inside of the lever are hand stamped D2...possible a Tool room number or stamped for trials parts...     The mold markings on the 2nd Version aluminum vinyl coated stocks: Mold # 1 [NN] , lever underside stamped 2 and Newton NewHaven    2nd Version with Mold #2 [NN] , lever underside stamped 4 and Newton NewHaven   3rd Version All Plastic , Mold 1 and N   More photos to follow. i noticed most of my original colt prototype era m4 aka xm4 kits whether a1 or a2 type sights are early enough to have the gen 1 non 1 N marked stocks. made from same molds as 1 N marked fiberlites. larry vickers scud hunter carbines is what the a1 upper with m4 barrel profile is sometimes called. they were issued to us army delta force as early as the mid late 1980s i gather. i bought 18 kits like that and noticed the early colt fiberlite stock doesnt have the 1 N. 1 N came later. you guys should add the non 1 N version to the archive. again its the same exact mold down to the faded out recessed dots on sides of cheek weld area. |

Thanks m1sniper! I got (4) stocks from a mil surp guy and wasn’t expecting what I got! I was pleasantly surprised when one of them was clearly painted black and had what looked like a rack number on it. I lifted the lever and it revealed an area with no paint underneath! So I had a big internal debate whether to remove the paint or not. Figured what the heck… Some things I noticed- it appears the buttplate thickness is slightly thinner(1mm) than vinyl acetate one(not counting the thickness of the vinyl acetate). Also it has what looks like a 5 on the top front of the cheek rest in an area with a square raised section(last pic). I will likely pass it on to someone else. Let me know if you are looking for one. |
