I bought a SFAR a while back and have only acquired a few mags for it. Ran across a couple used 20 round steel DPMS floorplate marked mags at a LGS. They seem well built and in good condition. Are these decent mags at $20 each?

I have at least a dozen DPS mags of different birth dates.

I have never had a failure in any way that would have been a DPMS mag cause.
edit to clarify I was only used them in DPMS riffles.

I think $20 is a steal (pun intended)

My sfar runs great with magpuls.  Not so much with my old dpms 308.  Yes, they should work, but don’t.
Been having too much fun with the Ruger to dig deeper, I just use magpul.

That’s actually the day I tried the steel mags and threw them back in the bag.

The dpms and magpul both run great in my dpms. Interesting.

Beautiful range. And to have it alone is even more better!

I live on 100 acres but it’s hard to find line of site for more than 500 yards.

I’ve had good luck with DPMS mags but never tried them in a sfar

My damn state built that, can you believe it.  Steel all over that cliff, probably 30 pistol bays. Archery, clays, LR precision rifle out to 2k yards.  And never a crowd.  250 miles from Denver keeping the masses away.

I used to drag steel out to our nearby public land, but really no reason to anymore.

Mine does the same thing.  The DPMS mag body hits the bolt-hold-open of the SFAR and jams up the works.  Sample size of one SFAR and one DPMS mag.

Pull your lower off and stick the DPMS mag in the well, push down on the BHO, and you will see what I'm talking about.

I imagine you could cut the BHO back a hair on each side of the nub projection to make clearance, and the SFAR would run DPMS mags without a problem.

Tony

Edited to add - In my second pic, it appears there is clearance, but there is not.  The mag hits the BHO and prevents it from rotating downward.

Thanks for all the replies. Fortunately, I was able to test them out first. Like Tony and DVCER mentioned, they just don't fit right with the bolt catch.
